Whispers Of The Fade

313 Words
I drove Iris back to the Bach Residence after dropping Wendy and her mother at the airport before going back home. We didn’t talk much on the ride back home except for a few comments here and there. The next morning, the loud ringing of my phone woke me up. I picked the phone from under the pillow to see an unknown number. I hesitated for a while before tapping on the “Answer” option. “Hello” [Larry] The voice sounded familiar but soft like a whisper, as though the person could barely talk. [l….am….dying] I recognized the voice. Iris. I didn’t save her number the other day. “What?! What’s wrong?” No response. “Hey, talk to me” No response. “F*ck” I cursed and tossed the phone aside. I wore a light shorts with a T-shirt and drove out. A few minutes later, I pulled into the large Bach compound. The moment I stepped out, I found the security guard closing the large metallic gate behind. “Don’t close it. Come with me” I shouted as I ran towards the main door to the building. I turned the knob with every strength in me but it was locked from inside. “Sh*t. Do you have an extra key” I turned and asked the security. “No Ooga. But I can calling small madam make she come open gate give you” “Something is wrong with her. She’s inside alone” I replied while contemplating whether to break the door. “Woi! Something happening to small madam? Ah Ooga. Comot make I open gate” he said and ran into his room outside the main building. A few seconds later, he came back with a key and opened the door. “Where’s her room” I asked as we both rushed inside the house.
