My eyes shut from pain as Kieran's hand pressed on my wounds.
The hot water had landed from my back to my neck and mouth and now he was rubbing at the raw flesh.
Just because of his selfish reasons.
"You know what will happen if you do that! We've already mated, you can't rip apart the bond just like that. Somebody tell her!"
The way he was yelling in my face like a mad man showed me how scared he was of my rejection.
Before now, I'd thought it wasn't such a big deal, like he'd feel pain for a few days and that's it.
But now I see that I've had my means for revenge in my hand for so long and I didn't use it.
It's also because his Pack would gather around me with pitchforks, sorry, fangs, claws and rage to tear me into shreds for hurting their beloved Alpha.
Now that none of that will happen, it's my perfect chance to do it.
Not just for revenge, but to finally be free.
"Move."
The command wasn't screamed, it was a statement.
The King knew exactly how powerful he is so he rarely ever raises his voice.
And just like that, Kieran pulled away from me, his eyes on mine.
I watched it shift from rage to something else.
He was begging.
"Your Majesty," Kieran turned to the King, "we came here for an Alpha's convention. If she does this, I won't be able to contribute anything on the matter at hand. She's just a wolfless omega, why prioritise her needs over something so important?"
King Cassian scoffed, "you think your input is important? You?"
"Of course!" He retorted, prideful. "I have very good suggestions on how to deal with these rogues, just watch and see!"
"I'd rather not. Your Pack still relies on my men to keep rogues away from tearing your Pack apart. I don't need your opinion. However, you just tried to take away a fundamental right of a werewolf."
"She doesn't even have a wolf," Laura reminded everyone and I sunk deeper into the dark.
For once, she wasn't lying.
"You're a terrible liar."
"Your Majesty look at her! She's wolfless and weaker than an omega."
His growl gave me chills and sent Laura further back as she hid behind Kieran.
"We all have a wolf. That hers is shy to show herself doesn't mean she doesn't have one. And even if she never shows up, a wolf isn't all that makes us what we are. You have a bond with her, I can see it. That's all I need to know she's one of us. She will finish her rejection and that'll be the end of this."
I felt like I should speak now but there was so much tension in the room it felt like I would set off an explosion.
Laura glared at me, a warning that I knew all too well.
Kieran looked between me and the King, weighing his options.
"No," he finally shook his head, "I can't let her do it. My wolf won't survive it."
"Then you're a weaker Alpha than I thought. Eleanor, finish your rejection. If anyone tries to stop you, they won't sleep well tonight."
"Yes Your Majesty," I agreed, even though my heart was thundering really fast.
He didn't stop there, he came to me, turned me to face Kieran and placed his hand on my shoulder.
The message was clearer now.
"Don't do it, Ellie, please," Kieran begged, "remember everything I did for you! I saved you from Laura so many times! Don't repay me with evil, that's not who you are!"
I scoffed, "everything you did for me? You watched a family that was under your control hurt me for years. When I found out I was your mate, I expected them to be punished. Every mate I've known always did that for their women. Instead, you took my inheritance, dumped your Alpha roles on me and used me in every way possible. When there was nothing left, you picked the better sister, the legitimate one and tossed me under her boot! I'm not the evil one, you are! I, Eleanor Thornfield, reject you, Kieran Ashton as my mate! I break my bond with you and the Wolf Howl Pack forever!"
The pain came for me first.
All of my bravado disappeared.
My knees went weak and I was hurtling to ground without anything stopping me.
Until I felt warm, thick hands catching me.
Before I could process my shock, Kieran howled.
His wolf tore out of him, violently.
Blood splattered on the floor and he nearly tore Laura's skin.
She scampered off to the bed and watched with wide eyes.
When he was fully shifted, he ran to me, whining and sniffling.
The King's hand reached out and caressed his head.
"Sorry furry friend, you chose the wrong human."
And then he turned towards the door, still carrying me in his arms.
Should I try to get down?
Gosh, this was so awkward.
His arms felt so nice, warm and protective but I knew it was wrong.
Slaves don't get treated like this, I've never seen it done anywhere.
I'm not even worthy of being called an omega. My wolf took that out of the equation.
Yet he walked with me, his hand steady around me and I fought the urge to push my head into his chest.
That would be disrespectful, right?
"All of you," he barked, "go to bed. Show's over."
Footsteps filled the hallway as everyone scampered off.
In the silence, the pain returned.
Where the bond used to be, a raw tendon remained, hurting and throbbing.
I didn't have a wolf to share the pain with, all I had was myself.
The further he walked, the more the tears threatened to spill. My eyes watered as the pain got worse, but he didn't stop walking.
I didn't even know where he was taking me to and at some point, I allowed myself bury my face in his chest.
But nothing stopped the pain.
Then I felt him drop me to the softest bed I've ever felt and I jerked up in surprise.
"Where are we?" I gasped, looking around like a fish out of water.
"My chambers."
