Summer has melted away, and with it go the Red Sox’s chances. Talk about your epic collapses! They blow a nine-game lead in September, losing twenty of their last twenty-seven games. The Tampa Bay Rays overtake them after beating the Yankees on the last day of the season. The Red Sox don’t even make the playoffs. The back page of the New York Post screams “Choked to Death.” “This is one of the biggest choke jobs in baseball history.
