Five days after the clinic, just before Su is to leave for her first weekend at the lake, she comes over for dinner. The night before I overheard my parents talking about how I have “climbed out of my shell” since meeting her. It gives me more hope that Winnepesaukee will work out. I remember Mom saying to Dad, “I think he’s much happier now. He was so down after the championship game.” Oh, so they noticed. Su parks her parents’ car behind my dad’s Accord and steps out in a flower-print sundress with spaghetti straps and sandals. She looks great—sexy but in an elegant kind of way. I open the screen door and rush out to the driveway to greet her. The next thing you know, I hear Danny’s big mouth. “They’re kissing!” My parents are standing right behind him in the doorway, a few steps back
