I woke up late Saturday morning, a day for me to rest and have some family time. I enjoyed weekends more than anything, it was like a break from... everything.
I lazily walked into the bathroom, brushed my teeth and took a warm shower, shampooing my hair while at it. I blow dried my hair before walking out and making my way down the stairs.
Mom was in the kitchen making scrambled eggs and toast. I could smell eggs from the hallway.
"Breakfast is ready. Grab a plate and take whatever you want to eat" mom said just as I walked in, turning around to face me.
Her chestnut brown hair was tied up in a loose bun and she was wearing her navy blue apron. Her blue eyes sparkled from the sunlight coming through the kitchen window.
"No, thank you. I will just have some cereal," I said getting up on my tiptoes to grab a bowl from one of the high cabinets. I poured some milk and cinnamon crunch toast, my favorite cereal in the whole world.
I sat on the dining table and ate the spoons full of cereal like there was no tomorrow.
After breakfast, I accompanied my mom as she ate her own breakfast. After she was done with her breakfast, I helped her with the dishes. I thought this was a great way to have some mother-daughter time. I loved the fact that my mother enjoyed my company just as much as I enjoyed hers.
No, we didn't do anything special, we just ate food and sometimes watched movies together.
Just as I finished doing dishes, I got a phone call. I noticed that it was Jade and answered it.
"Hey, Jadie."
"Hey Liz, wanna come to the library? I have some homework to finish and I need a quiet place" she said, "my house is being invaded by little monsters."
I chuckled because I knew exactly who she was calling ''monsters'. She had triplet nephews and nieces. They often came over to her house and every time they did, she would either study at my house or take me to the library with her.
"Yeah sure, I have to find a book to read in math class," I laughed. Math class was so boring, I'd rather read something I will remember than focus on things I already learn a week ahead of the class.
"Get ready, I'll be there in 10," she said.
"Okay, but don't be late, I will be waiting for you outside," I warned.
"Why do people think I'll always be late," she sighed.
"Because you are always late, Jade."
"Fine I won't be late this time," she said before hanging up.
I quickly wore black skinny jeans, white long sleeve tee, and black and white converses.
I stood outside and waited for her. she was late again, despite me clearly warning her. She needed to take classes on how not to be late.
While I was sitting outside on the steps, I saw Jim pass by and I waved and yelled "morning" to him and he smiled and waved back. Jim was an old guy who lived a few houses away from me; I used to go to his house a lot when I was a kid.
While I was thinking about my childhood, Jade's car pulled up in the driveway.
"Hey, girl!" Jade yelled jumping out of the driver's seat.
"Jade, late again... got any excuses this time?" I asked.
"In fact, I do," she said standing in front of me and putting her hand on my shoulder, "I was driving, then I saw a huge Macy's sign that was like yelling and screaming, telling me to come inside. I felt bad... so I did."
"Wow, you are a very nice person, and horrible at making excuses," I said.
We drove to the library. Blasting music and singing along loudly on the way.
We walked into the library and it was so nice and peaceful. I was happy to see my kind of people there.
"I will go look for some comic books" I whispered to Jade and she nodded.
Ain't nobody got time to read huge books, I like myself some comic books.
I walked up to the shelf with all the comics, manga and picture books and started grabbing any title that I found interesting.
I took the stack of books and sat on an empty table. I read the summary in the back of the cover for some of the books that I wanted to take home.
BOOM! While I was busy reading, all the books from one of the shelves fell with a loud noise and there was only one guy picking it up. I walked up to him to help him gather all the books that fell off.
"How did this happen?" I said without looking at who the person was and directly started picking up the books.
No response... ok...
"I was looking for a book and they all kinda fell..." the familiar deep voice said and it came from the person who dropped the books.
I couldn't recognize the voice even though it sounded very familiar. I looked up to see who this was.
