The Deeper

I’m here, givin you my listening ears."she said, staring at me with her unblinking pale blue eyes. I smiled back, but found myself speechless, unsure of what to say. A waiter approached us, stopping by our table with a warm grin. "Welcome, lovebirds," he began cheerfully. "You two seem to be made for each other. I've noticed how happy and carefree you both look. However, I see you haven't tried our new ice cream from Ireland yet. It's as delightful as this day is for you." His words made us chuckle as we exchanged glances. She took the ice cream from his hand, placing one in front of me and keeping the other for herself. "Thank you, Madam," the waiter said with gratitude. Before I could react, she had already handed over the payment. "Enjoy your ice cream with love, young couple," he said as he left us to our privacy. With a smile on her face, she took a small bite of the ice cream. "Uhmmmm," she said, closing her eyes briefly in delight, clearly savoring the flavor. "It must be really good," I said, smiling back at her. She nodded, "You should try it too." I laughed softly, taking a small bite of my ice cream. "Yes, it’s indeed wonderful. This one is truly unique," I said, setting the cup down in front of me. In moments like these, surrounded by love and joy, life felt complete, much like the satisfying taste of that special ice cream. My companion looked at me with a smile, and I couldn't help but feel grateful for the gift of love that made our day so perfect. I didn't know where to start explaining to Sasa as she kept gazing at me with her mesmerizing eyes. Her gaze had a way of making my thoughts scatter. She smiled, a small, then took a deep breath and raised her head. "What did you say to me the other day?" she asked, her voice soft and teasing. I chuckled awkwardly, looking down to gather my thoughts. When I looked up again, her eyes were waiting, full of warmth. Her smile, the one that could melt the hardest of hearts, made me feel a bit more at ease. "Sasa," I began, my voice gentle and earnest, "I'm really sorry if what I said upset you. I swear it wasn't my intention to hurt you or make you feel confused. My heart compelled me to tell you without planning it... I just couldn’t hold it in any longer." Did you just say it without preparing or thinking it through?" she asked, her eyes locking onto mine with an intensity that made my heart race. I nodded, at a loss for words, unable to find an answer that would satisfy her curiosity. "Uhmmm, young man," she continued with a playful yet serious tone, "You should have thought long and hard before saying such things to me..." Her confidence was unwavering. I smiled awkwardly, my voice barely a whisper as I met her gaze. My heart pounded harder, and my energy seemed to wane. "I did think long and hard, but I wasn’t prepared to say it aloud..." My voice trembled. She laughed softly, her laughter like a gentle melody, then hit me with questions that pierced my soul, ones I couldn't avoid answering. "What exactly did you think about? And how did it come to pass that you confessed your love to me without being ready to say it?" she asked, her tone both curious and demanding. Taking a deep breath, I gathered my thoughts. "Sasa," I began, my voice low and steady, "I’ve thought about this for a long time. Every moment we’ve shared has only deepened my feelings for you. My heart spoke out before my mind could catch up. I needed you to know, even if I wasn’t ready to face the reality of saying it." Taking a deep breath, I continued, "What I meant to say is that my feelings for you are real. They’re not just fleeting emotions but something deeper, something I can’t ignore. I've been thinking about it a lot, and I just had to let you know." Her eyes softened slightly, but she continued to hold me accountable. "So, you’ve been thinking about this for a while, but didn’t plan to tell me?" I nodded, "Exactly. It just felt right in that moment, even though I hadn’t planned for it. My feelings are genuine, and I wanted you to know that." She took a moment, contemplating my words, her expression a mix of contemplation and affection. "I appreciate your honesty," she finally said, a hint of a smile returning to her face. "Just promise me that next time, you’ll be a bit more prepared." With that, a weight seemed to lift off my shoulders, and I couldn’t help but smile back at her, relieved and hopeful for what was to come. Sasa's smile grew wider, and she reached across the table to take my hand in hers. "I'm glad you told me," she said, her voice filled with genuine warmth. "I feel the same way. It’s just taken me by surprise, but now that I know, I’m relieved." Our fingers intertwined, and for a moment, the world around us faded away. It was just the two of us, sharing a connection that words could hardly capture. The love between us was as palpable as the warmth of the sun on a perfect summer day. In that moment, everything felt right. The uncertainties and fears melted away, leaving only the pure joy of being together. And in her eyes, I saw a reflection of my own feelings, deep and true.
