I climb into Tristan’s car and he leans over to kiss me before pulling away. His hand reaches over and rests on my thigh as we drive.
“Are you stopping at mine tonight?” He squeezes my leg.
I sigh heavily, “I can’t actually. I have to go home and pack.”
“Pack?” He asks confused.
“My parents are sending me to live with some distant cousin I had no idea about. I have to go with him in the morning. They are going into rehab apparently.” I explain and still cannot believe it myself.
“Wait. You’re moving? Where does your cousin live?” He glances toward me.
“Santa Clara.”
He pulls the car over to the side of the road.
“Santa Clara? That’s the other side of the country Rads!”
“I know where it is,” I point out with a smile. “It’s not that big of a deal.”
“Rads, how can you say it isn’t a big deal? You are moving away from me.” He looks at me intently.
I shrug and he actually looks a little hurt. “It’s not like we are serious Tristan.”
“Jeez, I’m only your boyfriend. But obviously it’s not that serious to you.” He turns back to the steering wheel.
I know he is being sarcastic but he can’t think we are serious. We have only been together for six months.
When we pull up at the party Tristan climbs out the car and disappears through the open fencing.
Parties are held here all the time since the racetrack shut down. Someone cut the fence and we have been taking advantage since.
I climb out and duck under the fencing myself. I spot Sammy dancing in the crowd and head towards her.
“Woo!” She calls as I approach. “Here,” she hands me a shot and I knock it back.
-
I dance with Sammy for an hour before someone comes up behind me. They place their hands on my hips. Before I even have chance to respond Tristan is before me and knocks the other guy away.
The guy stumbles back before disappearing into the crowd.
Tristan pulls me toward him and I let him. “I’m sorry about earlier. I just can’t believe you are moving away.”
“What?” Sammy whirls toward us in shock.
I explain the situation to her and she begins to tear up before pulling me into a hug. “I am going to miss you so much.” She turns and grabs two shots off a passer by. He tries to tell her off but she ignores him and turns back to me. She offers me the shot, “here’s to your last night with us.”
I cheers her and knock the shot back before we throw ourselves into dancing the night away.
-
Tristan drives me home and seems tense as he slows outside my house.
He parks the car and turns to me, “can I come in?”
I consider his request a moment before nodding. We both step out before he comes around and holds my hand. I gesture for him to be quiet as we approach the door. I unlock it and stick my head inside but there is no one in the living area. I pull Tristan inside and lock the door behind us. We slowly walk through the living area and reach the stairs. I start to walk up first when a throat clears. I almost jump out of my skin and I whirl around to find Luke sitting at the kitchen table.
“Good evening,” he says with a smirk. “Who might this be?”
“You scared the s**t out of me,” I tell him and step back down the stairs. “This is my boyfriend Tristan.”
Luke stands and approaches us, “I am Luke. Nice to meet you.” He shakes hands with Tristan.
“You’re the cousin?” Tristan’s asks and glances at me.
“Yes,” Luke confirms with a little laugh. “I am the cousin.” He gestures to the stairs. “Your parents are already in bed, I was waiting to make sure you got home safely. I will fetch you at 9am tomorrow.” He starts heading to the door.
“Wait.” I say and he turns to look at me. “You aren’t going to tell Tristan to leave?”
He shrugs, “you are old enough to make good choices.”
With that he leaves the house and silence stretches out.
“Come on,” I finally grab Tristan’s hand and lead him the rest of the way upstairs.
Once in my room Tristan doesn’t waste any time in pulling me to him. He kisses me and his hands start to roam my body. I kiss him back and slide my hands under his T-shirt. He has amazing stomach muscles, perks of being a jock I suppose. I slide his T-shirt off and toss it to the floor. We rapidly undress each other and fall back on my bed.
