Chapter Six

1024 Words
When we finally get back to the house I have had enough. Juke’s girlfriend does not appreciate the fact he has hung all over me today. She has glared at me all day long. Juke was only in a few of my classes but he walked me to every class and was there at the end of every class. Not sure how he pulled that one off. A guy in English class was nice to me, he was asking where I was from. I think his name was Callum. He invited me to a party tonight, he gave me his number incase I need a ride. I was exhausted when we reached the house and wanted to just collapse on my bed for a while. Juke had other plans though. “We need to find Luke. He will want to know how your first day was sunshine.” Juke flicks my nose. “I would rather head up to my room actually,” I tell him. He feigns offence and holds his heart. “Sunshine, how could you wound me like that?” I scoff and allow him to lead me to the back garden. “You are such a flirt. I am surprised she is still your girlfriend.” “Jealous?” He wiggles his eyebrows at me. “Oh yeah, definitely jealous.” I laugh at him. “Juke,” Luke is just walking out of the shed as we reach the garden. “Let her go will you.” Juke leans over and kisses my head before releasing me and walking toward the shed. The door opens just as Ithan and Regan step out. Ithan waves at me so I wave back. Regan is silent as he appraises my uniform. A slow smirk spreads on his face, “well now you could definitely use the pole for me.” I stick my finger up at him and Juke stifles a laugh. “As it’s Friday night we will be going out later,” Luke tells me. The other guys all hover by the side gate of the garden, clearly waiting to go. “Are you going to be okay here by yourself?” “Actually I have plans. That’s okay right?” I fold my arms across my chest as I watch Luke’s reaction. He seems surprised but shrugs after a moment, “of course. I didn’t expect you to make friends so quickly.” I offer him a genuine smile and turn to the house. “I am going to get ready?” “Wait.” Regan steps toward me and I freeze. “Who are you going with?” I smile at him over my shoulder, “none of your business.” He opens his mouth to speak again but I cut him off. “Luke is my cousin and can ask those questions. Not you.” - My black denim shorts are high waisted but barely cover my ass. I pair them with a red and black checkered bralet. I add my heeled boots, they have spikes down the side. I apply heavier dark makeup and curl my hair. A text lights up my phone, Callum is here. When I reach the kitchen there is a note and some money on the side. ‘Stay safe and ring me if you need anything. Luke’ I already have money in my bag so I don’t take it before heading out the door. Callum is waiting outside on a motorbike. “Does everyone around here have a bike?” I ask him with a laugh. “Only the best of us,” he passes me a helmet. “You look amazing by the way.” “Thank you,” I climb onto the back of his bike. He doesn’t ride his bike with caution like Luke, he zips between traffic. I feel a little on edge by the time we reach the party. It is a house party. A huge f*****g house might I add. “Whose house is this?” I ask as we climb off the bike. “One of the cheerleaders,” he shrugs like it is irrelevant. “Let’s go.” He takes my hand in his and leads me up the driveway. Once inside everyone greets Callum. They tap him on the arm and he speaks back to most people. We finally reach the kitchen and Callum picks up two beers before handing me one. I take it and swallow some down. He then continues to lead me through the house until we find a room with people dancing in it. He approaches a group of jocks. “Hey man,” one of them turns and nods to Callum. “Hey guys, this is Radleigh.” He pulls me closer and puts and arm around me. “Radleigh this is everyone.” Awesome introduction there Callum. “Brett,” the guy closer to me offers with a nod of his head. “Hi Brett,” I smile back at him. “What sport do you all play?” A genuine smiles lights up his face this time, “basketball actually. You a fan?” I shake my head, “not really sorry. My ex boyfriend was a footballer.” He seems surprised and looks me over, “you don’t seem the type to date a jock to be honest.” He laughs a little and I join him. I lean closer like I am about to tell him a secret, “athletic guys have the best bodies.” He laughs loud at that before tapping a glass against mine. “Amen to that.” He points to a guy at the back of the jock crowd. “That is my boyfriend Nick.” “Nice.” “Come on,” Callum says and begins to lead me away. “Let’s dance.” He hands our drinks off to Brett before leading me to the middle of the crowd dancing. We drop into the rhythm easily and I find that Callum is a very expressive dancer. We have a good time laughing and enjoying being silly.
