CHAPTER 1
MIA'S POV I could hear my heart thumping in my head, the grim looks on their faces, all directed at me, as I looked down at my hands, the sight of crimson red blood dripping from my hand, what have I done? Without thinking twice, I ran as fast and far as I could before taking in what I had done, and with the constant thoughts came the realization that... "I just killed a man” Earlier that day… Urggghh! Waking up to the sound of this alarm is annoying, but without that, I'd be asleep the whole day. I climbed out of bed with my eyes gazing around my room until it landed on the square wall clock just above the mirror. "Oh s**t! I'm gonna be late" I muttered as I hurried to pick up my towel from the chair by the bed, but tripped and fell face first on the floor. "Ouchhh" I swear this is a shitty routine at this point because, how do I manage to trip almost every morning, and now, Mr Stones thinks I'm a clutz. The thought crosses my mind as I mentally roll my eyes and rush into the bathroom to take a shower. After 20 minutes of fast-paced bathing and dressing up, I was finally ready to meet my dream man; "Steve the Great '', as I fondly referred to him, but only in my head as we had not met yet. "Happy birthday, Mia!" Said Mr Stones walking into my room tiredly with a cake, but trying to put on a smile. Mr. Stones is my guardian and the only parent figure I've had since my parents died when I was three(3) years old. He is an elderly tall dark man, with a physique that doesn't give his age away. His very dark curly hair is a result of good dye and hair products he applies to "look his youth" as he fondly says. "Thank you so much pops pops" I squealed as I proceeded to cut the cake, smiling from ear to ear. "Before you take a slice, remember to make a wish and blow out the candles," Mr. Stones said, stopping me from eating the cake immediately. Oh please, I wish for my meeting with Steve to go as well as possible, and please let our children be pretty and handsome. I thought to myself with my eyes closed. "Okay, I'm done wishing, time to blow my candles" I said proceeding to blow out the candles. Just then, a little chuckle erupts from Mr. Stones and he says; "I remember you being a baby like it was just yesterday. From the clumsy baby I loved, and raised to the beautiful, successful, still clumsy lady you are” he said letting out a chuckle which I joined in. “Mia”, he continued, “I got a gift that I've kept for you since your parents died". "Please tell me it's not my parent's ashes" I replied sarcastically while looking expectantly at Mr. Stones. "No… it's not the ashes of anyone" Mr stones said as he opened up a small box and brought out a necklace. "Awwwww, I recognize that," I muttered, Feeling nostalgic with teardrops streaming down my cheeks. "Yes pumpkin, it belonged to your mom. It was a gift from your dad to your mom, the day he found out she was pregnant with you. I've saved it for you till today, I'm sure she'd want you to have it". He said as I wiped my tears with the back of my palm. I turned my back to him and he shifted my hair from the right to the left shoulder and put the necklace on me. "It's beautiful, I love it. Thank you so much. This is the best birthday gift ever!" I said shyly, while fondling with the pendant as I smiled. "Okay, enough with the sentiments or we'll be late to see your "Steve the Great". I'll wrap a slice for him and we'll be out of here". He said as he wrapped the cake. "Alright, pops pops" I retorted as I reached for my meal. "Finish up here and come to the dining for breakfast so you won't spend the journey telling me about how hungry you are," he said accusingly "Hey, I don't do that," I retorted, following him behind. We started our journey to Steve's compound. The journey was a breeze because I was already staring at his gates. It is more beautiful than I imagined, the trees are greener than ever, and the whole surrounding had a pure feeling like nature hadn't been messed with on this side of the world. “Hey Mia,” Steve said, interrupting my thoughts. Startled by the deep husky voice that sounds like the thundering of waterfalls reaching for my pure soul, I turn around and bump into a living statue towering over me. “Excuse me, I'm so sorry, I didn't know you were so close,” I said, squinting and hoping to get a good glimpse of his face almost shadowed by the blinding light of the sun. “You look more beautiful than Mr. Stones described. I'm Steven but you can call me Steve” he said with a smirk on his face while casually reaching out for my hand and giving it a gentle kiss. “I'm Mia and hmm, everyone calls me Mia” I retorted tensely, feeling silly for adding the last part. “How about we go for a walk?” He offered with a smile on his face but my nerves were all over the place. “Uhmm, Mia I'm still waiting for a response here,” he said, interrupting my thoughts. “Oh I'm sorry, I thought I said yes but it seems it was just in my mind. Yes! I'd love to go for a walk with you, so we'll talk. Sorry, I meant yes” I blurted out and mentally face-palmed myself. I hope I'm not making a mess on our first day. “It's alright, for what it's worth, I find you adorable,” he says gesturing to me to start walking. “Thank you” I replied shyly. A gentleman he is, I thought to myself as we started walking. We laughed over some childhood stories and memories. He's calm, assertive, has a toned body, respectful, and he's a handsome species of the human race, if not the most handsome I've seen. I have already pictured him being the man of my dreams, with our three or maybe four children running and playing around this beautiful yard where we're taking a walk. I can't wait!!! “Do you mind us wolfing out and taking a run in the forest?” He said, looking expectantly at me. “I'm sorry, wolf out?” I retorted giggling. “Is that a metaphor for unleashing our inner desires? You really can't wait to have me I see” I chuckled and returned my face to meet an impatient look on Steve's face. “Did I do something wrong?” I asked, feeling worried. “Do you not know how to wolf out yet? Or are you just messing with me?” He asked sternly this time, without all the love and care he showed before. “I… I don't know what you mean... I..” I replied confused. "Shut it! I'm the alpha of the frostbite pack and to be my Luna; you have to be able to wolf out"... He continued; "I can't believe I was about to make a mere human my Luna," He said looking disgustedly at me His eyes suddenly turned red and he said "Do you want to mess with me? I know what to do to get you to wolf out" At that moment, he transformed into the most terrifying creature I had ever seen, one I had only seen in storybooks; a werewolf. Before I could even process it all, he pounced on me and started hitting me with the hopes that I would turn into the creature that he was. I wailed and pleaded with him to stop, accepting to still be with him if he stopped. He stopped abruptly and howled before turning to his human form. Thank goodness he listened to me, I thought, until he said "If I ever see you anywhere close to this territory, I'll tear you to shreds. Get out!" Everywhere froze around me and suddenly my chest felt tight as I was gasping for air at the harsh words he used. Within a flash, I saw myself sitting on the floor outside Steve's gates and then it dawned on me. I was thrown out.
