Chapter 6 Misunderstanding

“I didn’t expect that your husband wouldn’t be able to do it. No wonder you’d do such things. Now that you’re infected with syphilis, you might be able to hide it for two or three days, but can you hide it for half a year? Once you have it, even if he doesn’t find out, there’s still the possibility of infection. What’s your next course of action?” William asked after taking a deep breath, his eyes fixated on Kylie’s.

Kylie wiped her tears with a tissue paper. She replied uncertainly, “I don’t know what to do for now, but I know that I must never let my husband know about this. Otherwise, he will divorce me.”

“Then why did you invite me out for dinner today?”

“I hope that you won’t tell other people about this, including Wanda. Can you do that?” Kylie pleaded pitifully as she looked at William.

“Well… I will try my best.”

While the both of them chatted, the dishes were already served.

After that, they continued chatting while they ate. Kylie finally felt relieved because William had already promised not to reveal her secret. She also believed in William’s character.

“Kylie, I want to ask you something and I hope that you won’t lie to me,” William asked in a lowered voice, having mulled over his thoughts.

“What is it? I’ll definitely answer you anything you ask me.”

“You and Wanda are best friends, and you’re the person that she trusts the most other than me. I believe that she’ll definitely tell you if she has any secrets. Well, I just want to know if she’s close with anyone else at school.”

William worded his request in a vague manner. He did not mention anything directly to Wanda cheating on him, which was considered to be leaving room for leeway.

“I think it’s still fine, but Wanda’s the most beautiful teacher in our school, so it’s inevitable for some men to express their love to her. However, as far as I know, Wanda has always been very rational in keeping her distance from them. Moreover, she hasn’t done anything out of the ordinary as well. Though I must ask, why did you ask me this question all of a sudden, William? Have you discovered something?” Kylie tilted her head slightly as she asked in confusion and surprise.

“I received a short video yesterday. You should take a look at it first.”

William intended to let Kylie cooperate with him to investigate what was going on. That was why he summoned the cheating video that he had stored on his phone and placed it in front of her.

“Ahh!”

Kylie shrieked in surprise as soon as she saw the woman’s side profile after playing the video. She covered her mouth with her hand, an incredulous expression on her face. It was as if she could not believe her eyes.

The video was only ten seconds long. After watching it the first time, Kylie replayed it again as if to confirm the identity of the woman inside.

After that, she handed the phone back to William. She gazed at him in the eye and asked, “Are you suspecting that the woman in the video is Wanda?”

“You’ve watched it twice. What do you think?” William asked directly as he looked at Kylie with a serious expression on his face.

William did not dare to blink when he questioned Kylie, fearing that he might miss out a detail or two.

Kylie’s brows were tightly knit together. She was hesitant to reply, but in the end she sighed and said, “When I first saw the woman, I thought it was really Wanda, but when I looked carefully for the second time, she gave off a different feeling to me. To be honest with you, I can’t explain the difference. After all, the quality of this video is really bad. What’s more is that the woman is only showing her side profile, so it’s really hard to tell who she is. By the way, William, did you show this video to Wanda?”

“Yes. I showed it to her last night.”

“What did she say then?” Kylie asked expectantly as she looked at William.

“She said that it wasn’t her and that she has an alibi. Look at the time when the video was recorded. It was on last Sunday night. You were out shopping with her that night. She said that you could be her witness. Kylie, I hope that you can answer me honestly. Were you together with her for the whole night that night? Are you sure that she was with you during that time?”

“Yes. We did get together that night, and she only went to the washroom for a few minutes throughout the hangout. Other than that, we were never apart. I seem to recall that we were only separated after nine o’clock, but it doesn’t fit the video’s timeline too!” Kylie stated after shuffling through her memories carefully.

“Are you sure that you’re not lying to me?”

If what Kylie said was true, then that meant he had truly misunderstood Wanda. However, how could he trust Kylie’s words when she was the kind of woman who would cheat on her man?

“Well, you did promise me that you won’t expose my secret, so why would I still lie to you? Besides, Wanda and I are best friends. I basically know everything about her. If she really is the woman in the video, then I’d definitely have noticed the clues of her cheating on you during our time together. It has been a few years, but I have yet to notice any of the clues. I don’t claim to know everything, but she didn’t leave my side at all last Sunday night. If that short video was really filmed on that night, then I can tell you for sure that the woman in the video is not her,” Kylie spoke with conviction in a very solemn and sincere manner.

“Could it be that I’ve really misunderstood her?” William muttered to himself, obviously perplexed.

“William, Wanda is not like me. I cheated on my husband because he couldn’t satisfy my carnal desires. What reason would she have to cheat on you? You might not know this, but she has bragged about you more than once in front of me. She claimed that you’re very good in bed and that you can make her orgasm each time. It makes me incredibly jealous and resentful of her whenever she does that, so you really shouldn’t think too much, William,” Kylie said gently as she looked at William with a serious expression on her face. She defended Wanda’s honor with her words.

Hearing those words made William feel slightly guilty. If what Kylie said was true, then he might have really misunderstood Wanda.

But there were still some unresolved doubts in his heart.

Wanda had a bite mark on her chest. She had told him that Kylie was the one who bit her. However, Kylie sounded very half-hearted. She did not even deny it when William asked her about the bite mark on Wanda’s arm.

William shot Kylie an odd look when he was reminded by that question. He could not judge for himself whether she was lying to him or not back in the hospital.

However, it was not difficult for him to make a judgment since she was right here.

“Kylie, can you tell me what’s the matter with the bite mark on Wanda’s arm? Why did you bite her?” William asked seriously as he looked at Kylie.

“The bite mark on her arm hasn’t recovered yet? You might not believe this, but I have a strange fetish of biting people,” Kylie replied casually as she ate.

Annoyance set in on William’s face across the table. In his opinion, Kylie was lying to him.

He put down his fork, sighed and looked at Kylie in disappointment as he said, “I thought you could be trusted, but I really didn’t expect you to lie to me. It seems as though I’ve misjudged you.”

Kylie was stunned for a moment. She did not know why William was suddenly accusing her of lying to him, but judging from the expression on his face, it was easy to see that her reply was flawed.

“What’s wrong, William? When did I lie to you?”

“Do I really have to break it down for you? There aren’t any bite marks on Wanda’s arm at all! When we had s*x last night, I found a bite mark on her chest. Haven’t you realized that I was deliberately testing you this afternoon? I thought you’d tell me the truth if I could keep your secret for you, but now it seems that I’m clearly wrong.” William looked extremely dissatisfied as he glared at Kylie angrily.

“Take it easy for a moment. Are you talking about the bite mark on Wanda’s chest? When we went shopping for clothes last Sunday night, she showed off her good figure when she was trying on lingerie. I was a little jealous, so I bit her jokingly. I thought it healed a long time ago. Shouldn’t it have healed already? Besides, there’s also a bite mark on Wanda’s right arm. I bit her three days ago, so I didn’t lie to you at all. You can go back and take a closer look if you don’t believe me.”

William initially thought that Kylie was lying to him, but her explanation seemed to make sense now. After all, Wanda also said that Kylie bit her when she was trying on clothes last Sunday.

What William did not expect was that Kylie had left more than one bite mark on Wanda’s body. He had yet to discover the bite mark on her arm for the time being.

“So you really are the one who left the bite mark on Wanda’s chest?” William narrowed his eyes at Kylie, wanting to confirm that statement again.

“I swear, I’m not lying to you. At that time, Wanda was still worried that you’d misunderstand her if you saw it. I didn’t expect you to discover it afterward.”

William initially suspected that Kylie was helping Wanda to lie to him, but her expression at that moment spelt nothing but sincerity. There was no way she could lie so convincingly without sporting flaws within her lies.

Even if that was the case, William still felt somewhat stressed.
