"Don't you want a very easy life…Imagine everything you'll have if you just accept, stop being stubborn," he said, his beady eyes staring into mine.
"Thank you for the offer but I'm very comfortable where I am," I said, offering him a curt smile. I noticed him give me a quick glare before he schooled his expression then he ran his hand down the length of my arm. I stood up immediately resisting the urge to slap him across his face.
"Was there a reason why you asked to see me?" I said keeping my voice steady as my stomach churned with discomfort.
"I am capable of taking care of your needs, Emily. Think about it so you don't regret this" he said as he jumped from the desk and walked to his seat in slow, deliberate steps. "Think this through,be smart…you can leave," he added, turning his gaze out the window as he dismissed me.
I stood in silence for a few minutes having the urge to throw the paperweight on his balding hair but I controlled myself and made my way back to my office. He has been making advances at me for a long time now and even had me promoted to my current office hoping that I'd accept but I'm not really into old married men with kids and his persistence was irritating me now and my patience was thinning down.
My phone vibrated in my pocket as soon as I sat at my desk. I glanced at the caller ID and saw that it was Rachel, my roommate and best friend.
"Sup Em…don't leave early, I'll pick you up after work today," she said immediately, her voice bright.
"Is there a problem? Why?" I asked, surprised because her workplace was very far from mine and she is a lawyer, always busy with one case or another
"Not at all Em… There's no problem at all, we're just hosting a little party and you're coming with me," she said, her voice breaking due to the bad signal.
"Noooooo… . I'll be very tired after work, I…" started but she cut me off.
"I don't want to hear any excuses from you… just be ready when I get there and don't make me waste my gas coming to get you, they're very expensive now" she said in a firm voice.
"Ummmm…I don't have an extra set of clothes and I can't go to a party in my work clothes," I whined, pouring myself a glass of water.
"I know you'll say that so I'm prepared… I'll get you fresh clothes when I come," she replied, releasing a chuckle.
I wanted to say something but she hung up because she knew I would find a reason not to come. Releasing a tired sigh, I gulped down the water feeling the cool liquid go down my throat. I am a party girl but I don't really feel like going to one because the workload this week was draining me and I needed to rest before I start preparing for the dinner party.

The rest of the day dragged on as I focused on my work. I was able to complete some of them and decided to finish the rest tomorrow because it was close to my closing time. I cleared my things and kept the files in my drawer, locking it and putting the key in my bag. As soon as the clock hit five, I gathered my stuff and said a good day to the others before making my way to the lobby.
I saw Rachel's car already waiting for me and she honked her car to get my attention as if it was hard to spot her sticker filled car. I slid into the passenger seat and she threw a bag on my legs.
"Change into this, we're heading straight to the party now" she said as she drove off.
I looked through the bag before bringing it out. I changed out of my clothes and wore the new one with great difficulty and applied a swab of lipgloss on my lips.
Rachel chartered excitedly as she drove to the party filling me in on the reason for the party and the people there. Apparently it is a surprise party for one of them. Once we finally arrived,we could hear the building buzzing with music floating through the closed windows. We walked inside and we were greeted by Rachel's friends.
"Emily, this is Jake, Susan and Nora and guys this is my best friend, Emily" Rachel said,as she motioned to her friends. Jake,a tall and sharply dressed smile gave me a flirty smile as he took my hands placing a kiss on the back of my palm.
“ It's a pleasure meeting you Emily, I've heard tales about you, " he said as he released my hand.
“Good tales, I hope" I said as I returned the smile.
“Of course," he laughed." Let's head to the VIP section and wait for the others.
Jake led us through the crowd of people to the roped off area on the second floor which provided a perfect view of the party floor below. We sat down in the cozy corner, chatting and sipping cocktails as more people filled the floor.
As the party gained momentum and the music became louder, the dance floor filled with people. We went down and joined the others dancing as the rhythm of the music took over.
We danced together, laughing and twirling to the beat. The energy was infectious, and I felt the stress of the week melt away. The lights flashed around us, creating a kaleidoscope of colors that matched the vibrant mood of the night.
At one point, I headed back to the VIP section to grab another drink. As I made my way back to the dance floor, drink in hand, I accidentally bumped into someone, spilling wine all over their shirt.
“Oh my God, I’m so sorry!” I exclaimed, looking up to apologize.
The person stood there, wine dripping from their clothes, but before I could register more, the crowd pulled me back into the dance floor. I glanced back briefly, and noticed him glaring at me.
