Nym

CHAPTER III

Nym decided to go home early. Her phone has received a text message, it's from Rye. Nym lays down on her bed because she is so tired and sleepy. She decided to read the messages of Rye. First message shocked her, Nym could not believe herself what she read in the message, Rye had a confession of his feelings towards her. Lately Nym, distance herself to Rye because she felt that there is a feeling that is developing inside her that she cannot admit because it is contrary to the rules of her father. She is not allowed to get involved with a man. And she was afraid that for the first time, she might not contain herself and admit her feelings to Rye. Nym would like to reply to reply, to also admit that she likes her too. 

But she promised to her father, and to herself that she will only enter a relationship when she finishes her school. The heart of a good daughter wins in the end. She decided to focus on her studies and ignore her feelings. 

She sleeps and decides not to respond to the text messages.

The next day, Nym went to school and saw Rye standing at the gate but she ignored him and acted like she did not notice him. She went straight to their classroom. Suddenly Rye follows her and sits beside her. They felt awkward, unconfortable. 

Rye breaks the silence, “About the messages I sent last night..”

Nym did not allow him to finish “It’s okay, let’s not talk about that. You know that we need to focus on our studies, what you told me last night is not a priority, you know that”. 

Rye answered, “Yeah, of course I understand”. 

After that day, things are not the same anymore between them. Nym avoids Rye as if they were not friends. Nym associates herself with her other classmates. 

Rye has no choice but to respect her decision, though it hurts him so bad.

Weeks have passed, Nym missed Rye, their bonding at the canteen, at the library and even his corny jokes. 

She asked herself, “What if I give it a try? What if I did not ignore him? He said he is willing to wait. We can still keep our friendship for the meantime.”

Nym sent a message to Rye, “Where are you? let’s eat snacks, my treat”.

No response from Rye, she decided to go to the volleyball court, maybe he is doing practice for the coming game.

She entered the court, and looked for Rye. Suddenly her heart turned into pieces as she saw Rye standing at the corner of the court with the other girl. She knows the girl, Ana, the one who always cheers in every game of Rye. She was shocked, she felt so weak that anytime soon her knees will  fold. She almost cried but she decided to turn her back because they might have noticed her. She ran to the comfort room and burst into tears. It is so painful, she felt so much pain. This is the first time he experienced this pain. She tried so hard to compose herself and decided to go home. 

As she reached the house, she came to her room and locked herself to the comfort room. Turn on the shower and burst into tears. She realizes that she loves Rye, but it is too late. 

Maybe, they are not meant to be in a relationship at this point, she believes that if they are distined to be together no matter what happens it will be done.

She prayed, “Thank you for always guiding me, Lord sorry if I almost disobeyed my father’s rule, but I realized how much I love Rye. It is so painful to see him with another girl. Please help me to move on and to surpass this pain. If we are destined to be together, please let it happen at the right time. When my father’s blessing, because I want to introduce him to my family. But if your plans are contrary to what I love, please help me to move on. Please give me a sign to help me to move on”.

The next morning, she lost her cellphone. Nym is very religious and always prays for a sign whenever she needs help. Nym does not worry about her cellphone, she says “Maybe this is a sign of God, He allows my phone to get lost so that I won't be able to communicate with Rye, then it would be easy for me to move on. 

When she reached her classroom, Her seat was already occupied by Ana, the woman who held hands with Rye yesterday. She looks for a vacant seat, beside Marcus, the one who has a crush on her. She doesn't want to sit beside him but she has no choice. 

The classes started but the seat of Rye is still vacant. She is reading the books when Ms. Hernandez speaks, “Rye why are you late?”. 

Their eyes met, but she turned her head and continued reading. 

She heard him answer “Sorry Mam Hernandez, training ended so late last night”.

She didn't understand but when they eyes met, he gave her a mad face and looked at Marcus beside her. Is he disappointed because I sat beside Marcus, Is He Jealous?

She reprimanded herself for that thinking, she said to herself “You are just imagining things, He is now happy with that woman, in just a blink of an eye He was in love with the other girl so please wake up Nym!”.  

Marcus: “Yes Nym, are you saying?”

“Oh no!I'm just reading this book out loud sorry”she replied.

Before the classes ends, their teacher announces that most of the class will be transferred to another campus, and some will stay.

She was included in the students who will transfer to another campus. Rye will stay at the old campus. She was really dissapointed but somehow she considered it as an answered prayer. He will not see Rye & Ana together and eventually help her to move on. She have two more years in college in another campus to finish her studies.
