Long Live the Priest
THE PROFESSOR’S APARTMENT was all set for the meeting between the leaders of the Velvet Caps and the Hook g**g. Captains Dill and Johnson made all of the arrangements, which included a police presence around the house and at the end of each block. The captains told each g**g to approach from a particular direction and only the leaders would pass beyond a certain point with a police escort. These arrangements were their contribution to the good end, and John Singleton’s resources helped to encourage the security detail to volunteer for this special Sunday assignment. Dill told his intermediaries to inform the g**g leaders that The Professor, a well-known figure in Irishtown, and his new associate, The Priest, would run the meeting.
