Jimmy’s New Burn
JIMMY MCGREARY’S SKIN was still raw and red from the scrubbing required to remove the tar from his body. He grabbed the armrest on his chair as another chant emanated from the street below. “Hey, Jimmy, I just finished plucking a chicken, and brought you the feathers” was a crowd favorite, but the chant “Half as Hard Jimmy” was spouted most often, and the meaning no longer related to the strength of Jimmy’s punches. At first, Jimmy ran to the window with every taunt, which allowed people to gawk at his almost maroon face, but this only brought on more ridicule. After some time, he simply sat and endured the humiliation. Once able to go outside, Jimmy planned to challenge everyone to repeat the insults to his face.
