Chapter 1
◇ Kate ◇
“Dean, your wife is snoring at the dining table.”
He gazed at his wife's sleeping figure with disgust.
“ Never mind, darling, shall we go upstairs to continue what we started in the bar?” he extended his hand to the woman he brought with him.
“Sure baby,” she giggled.
A lone tear left Mayra’s closed eyes, he's bringing another woman to their house as usual.
He's been doing this since they got married three years ago.
Their marriage was a marriage of convenience; he married her to take care of his children, and she married him for her mother's cancer treatment.
It was a win-win deal, but she lost her heart to her billionaire widowed husband.
He doesn't know how much it hurts to see him bringing different women to their matrimonial home while she's waiting for him, everything like a good wife everything night to have dinner together. She had done everything to make him notice her. She cooked his favorite food, she cleaned his room and washed his clothes despite they had maids to do those chores, but she liked that, like the good wife she was, she even changed her hairstyle and her wardrobe to fit his sophisticated and glamorous life like what his late wife was.
She changed everything in her to please him and his family, but what did she get in return?
Nothing! But pain, neglect, betrayal, and humiliation.
He acts like she doesn't exist; he barely talks to her or glances at her; they don't share a room like a married couple, and he never touches her or kisses her.
But everything had to stop now; she had lost herself in the process, and she wanted to get her old self back; tomorrow, she would tell him her decision about their pathetic marriage.
She wiped her falling tears and went to her room. Tears welled up in her eyes when she heard moans and grunts from the door across her room, the same voices she'd been hearing for three years, and she would cry herself to sleep every single night he brought a woman home, but tonight was the last night that she would shed tears on him.
-The next day—
“ Ma-ma”, two-year-old baby Clara bubbles on her baby's chair while I fed her breakfast.
She gazed at her lovingly and kissed her chubby cheek. Mama is her first word, and it warms her heart every time she says it.
“Good morning,” Dean's greeting voice interrupted her mother-daughter moment.
“Good morning,“ she said back without sparing him a glance.
“ Morning, Daddy,” Five-year-old Fabian greets his dad.
Dean kissed his son and ruffled his hair.
“Morning champ”
Little Clara clapped her small hands excitedly to see her dad.
“ Up, up “she lifted her small hands for her father to pick her up.
He takes her in his arms, kisses her hair, and tickles her tummy, and she giggles; he laughs at his daughter's playfulness.
The sound of his laughter reminded her that he never smiled when they were together; he had always been cold and distant towards her; it broke her heart because she never gave him a reason to act like that.
“ I have something important to discuss with
You,” I told him.
“ You can tell me now,” he said coolly.
“ I prefer to be just the two of us “
“ Okay, meet me later. I will be in my office.”
It's Sunday, and he spends the day working in his office.
They ate their breakfast silently, then she took the kids to their playroom, and he went to his office.
************
She knocked on his office door and waited for him to call her in.
“Come in”
She walked inside, he was sitting at his desk, and his eyes were focused on his Mac.
She cleared my throat.
“ Hurry up and say what you want, I'm working as you can see.”
“ I want a divorce”
He turned his head to her and their eyes met.
He was taken aback by her request, but he masked it by his usual cold demeanor.
“ Did I hear you correctly? !”
“ Yes, I want a divorce.”
" No”
“ You know you can't get out of this marriage. We had an agreement. I married for the sake of my children, and they needed a mother figure in their lives, you needed money for your mother's surgery, and I'm not going to deny that you did your role perfectly. My answer is no, you can't back on the agreement after three years of marriage, and leave the children.”
“ I'm not giving up on them; I love them; they are my children even though I didn't give birth to them. It's our marriage that I want to give up. I don't wish to still be married to you. "
"You know very well that I don't have any sort of feeling for you, and I don't really care if you stay or leave. I only care about my children, and they grow very attached to you. I don't want them to get hurt, do you understand!" He said harshly.
Her eyes stung at his hateful words, but she managed to say it.
I won't be leaving them. I will stay here as their nanny”.
