Kate stood in the emergency room, her hands trembling, her mother's blood still smeared across her palms, her chest heaved with sobs as she stared at the closed doors that had swallowed her mother over an hour ago.
No one had told her anything yet. The silence from the doctors was unbearable, every minute stretching to eternity.
“Kate!” she turned at the sound of a familiar voice.
