Dave twisted restlessly in his bed, sleep refusing to come. Stella consumed his thoughts.
She was pregnant.
Was she married? Did she have a boyfriend? Or was it a one-night stand?
He let out a heavy groan. He couldn't lie to himself; he felt a pull toward her, a feeling he hadn't experienced since Sofia, his ex-wife.
“Daddy!”
His four-year-old son Liam rushed inside and scrambled onto the bed.
“What's wrong buddy?” Dave asked softly.
“I'm scared, Daddy. I want to sleep with you,” Liam said, his voice trembling.
He clung to his father's chest. Dave wrapped his arms around him, pulling him close.
“Don't be scared. Daddy is right here,” he murmured, pressing a gentle kiss to Liam’s forehead and stroking his soft hair.
