Chapter 4

845 Words
◇Kate ◇ She said goodbye to Danny, then hurried to her daughter. After calming her down, we had dinner. Dean had glared at her since she came home, but she ignored his stares and focused on feeding her kids. She tucked her children into bed, and they instantly drifted to sleep. Her poor babies must be exhausted. She went to her room, her tired body desperately needing a hot bath right now. She prepared a nice warm bath, then. She hopped in and relaxed inside the tub; the warm water and the essential oils were magic for her aching muscles. When the water was no longer warm, she washed her hair and finished her bath. She wrapped a big towel around her body and a tiny one around her hair. She was blow-drying her hair when her husband stormed inside her room. “You startled me! What the f**k is hard to get! I told you to knock on the door before coming to my room!” He ignored her irritation and took a step towards her until they were only inches between them. “ Who's that guy you were with today?” “ It's none of your business. “ He held her hand. “ As long as you are my wife and holding my name, it's my business. I won't let you trash my family's name by whoring around, so who is it? “ His words broke her heart. She would never forgive him for hurting her. “ His my childhood best friend, Danny. He was away in Italy for five years. He came back today. “Danny,” he whispered, firmly gripping her hand. “ Let go of my hand. You are hurting me.” He looked at her, his eyes full of disgust and resentment, and then he pushed her so hard that she fell on the bed. Then he stormed out of her room, leaving her so puzzled over his reaction. ………………… Her eyes were puffy from all the crying she had last night. It was the first time he had become physically rough with her. Thank God she will not have to face him this morning, it's Monday, and he leaves for work early, and from now on she will be locking her bedroom door to prevent him from breaking into her room. She tried to fix her tired face with makeup “I hate you, Dean Williams!” “I hate you with all my heart; you're nothing but a cold-hearted pig.” Her phone rang, she looked at the caller ID, and it was Danny. She smiled and picked up his call. “ Good morning Danny.” “Good Morning, hon. Can we meet over a cup of coffee? “ Imm, okay, I will meet you after dropping Fabian at school.” “Deal, I will send you the location on w******p; bye then,” and he hangs up the phone. …………….. “So this cute baby is Lily's daughter. “ I was holding Clara in my arms. “ Yes,” “ I can't Believe Lily passed away. She had always been a healthy athletics woman. “Cancer Defeated her” “ And you have been married to her husband for a year, wow? ” “Lily died. A few months after giving birth to Clara, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. In Stage 4, she refused to undergo surgery and chemotherapy. She was in denial and her cancer had spread to distant organs, and it was too late to survive. After a couple of months, I married Dean for the sake of the children and my mother's surgery and cancer treatment. Dean offered to take care of the bills if I signed a white marriage contract with him. But our marriage is not going to last, we are getting a divorce. However, enough talking about me, are you coming back to Italy?” “No, my brother Lucas found love in Italy, and he's going to settle down there, so I came back permanently to chase mine.” He reached for her hand, his fingers brushing hers before closing around it with a tender squeeze. She was lost in the death of his gaze, until the soft cries of her baby gently pulled her back to reality.” She gently withdrew her hand and softly rocked her baby to soothe her back into a peaceful sleep. “Danny, I'm so sorry, but I really have to go home now. We are in a public place and Clara's been so restless, she keeps waking up and crying hard. I just can't leave her like this. I will call you later” she said softly, trying to keep her voice steady. “No worries,I will take you home,” Danny offered. “There's no need, I will grab a cab,” she replied, already pulling out her phone. “Okay,” he nodded. “ I will walk you out.” They stepped outside the coffee shop. Just as they reached the sidewalk, Dean's car was already parked, waiting.
