Chapter Nineteen
Following the river, Quinn went further into the Fringes. Finding a place where the water was murky and the buildings weren’t as close or as tall, she sat on the banks and watched the light fade from the sky. There was no way she was getting into the water any sooner than she had to. She shivered at the thought of remaining in the water until the moon was overhead. How many hours was that likely to take?
When the last of the light faded from the sky she slipped into the cold water. Raising the reed to her lips, she slid below the surface and tried to get comfortable while she waited for the moon to be overhead. As the night wore on she grew colder, shivering as she remained below the surface. In the distance she heard the wolves howl and she wished Gideon was with her. E
