Chapter Six By the time the Hunt was close, they’d finished their apples and were lying on the creek bed, their heads leaning against the edge of the boulder that was underwater, reeds allowing them to breathe. Even though she couldn’t see anything, she kept her eyes open. If the Hunt was about to find her, she didn’t want it to be a surprise. Gideon reached for her hand and tightened his fingers over hers. She wished she could speak to him, but settled for squeezing back. The warmth of his hand in hers had her wriggling closer to him, hoping his body was equally warm. It wasn’t, but it seemed far warmer than her own and she pressed herself against his side, trying to stop shivering.
