Chapter 1
The rain had been falling since dawn, drumming softly against the rusted roof of the small house where Amara Okon had spent almost her entire life. The air smelled of wet earth, and the power had gone out hours ago, leaving only gray daylight filtering through the windows. Amara stood beside her grandmother's old bookshelf, running her fingers across rows of worn books. Most were history texts, old journals, and books about constellations. As a child, she had laughed whenever her grandmother insisted that the stars had names beyond the ones found in science books. "The stars remember us," Grandma would always say. "Even when we forget ourselves." Back then, Amara thought it was just another strange story. Now, standing in the silence of the house after her grandmother's funeral, those words echoed in her mind. She swallowed the lump in her throat. Nothing felt real anymore. The rooms that had once been filled with laughter were now painfully quiet. Every corner reminded her of the woman who had raised her after her parents disappeared when she was only five years old. A knock interrupted her thoughts. "Amara?" It was her best friend, Tobi. She opened the door. "I'm sorry," he said quietly, holding out a small paper bag. "My mum made some food." "You didn't have to." "I know." She smiled weakly before inviting him inside. They sat together in silence. Sometimes silence was kinder than words. After several minutes, Tobi noticed a small wooden box sitting on the table. "What's that?" Amara looked at it. "The lawyer gave it to me after the funeral." "You haven't opened it?" She shook her head. "I don't think I'm ready." Tobi nodded. "I'll stay." His presence gave her courage. Slowly, she lifted the lid. Inside lay a silver necklace shaped like a twelve-pointed star. Around it rested a folded letter written in familiar handwriting. Her hands trembled as she unfolded it. My dearest Amara, If you are reading this, then I am no longer with you. There are truths I could never tell you while I lived. The necklace belongs to our family. Never let anyone take it. When the stars begin to fall, trust no one who arrives without a constellation. Remember... you were born beneath a forgotten sky. Forgive me. Grandma. Amara stared at the letter. "What does that even mean?" she whispered. Tobi frowned. "Constellation?" Before either of them could say another word... The lights flickered. The power was supposed to be out. A strange blue glow filled the room. The necklace floated into the air. Amara gasped. The twelve-pointed star began spinning slowly, brighter and brighter until the entire room shimmered with silver light. Then... Everything disappeared. She found herself standing beneath a sky unlike any she had ever seen. Thousands of stars burned with colors no human language could describe. Purple. Silver. Gold. Blue. The constellations moved. Not slowly. They shifted like living creatures. Amara turned in confusion. "Where am I?" A voice answered. "Home." She spun around. An elderly woman dressed in robes made of starlight stood several feet away. Her eyes contained entire galaxies. "You've finally awakened." "I don't know you." "No." The woman smiled sadly. "But I knew your mother." Amara froze. "My... mother?" "You have many questions." "Where is she?" The woman looked toward the stars instead of answering. "There isn't much time." The constellations suddenly darkened. One by one... The stars began falling. The sky cracked. A deep roar echoed through the heavens. The old woman's expression changed. "They've found you." "Who?" "The Eclipse Order." Darkness spread across the sky like black ink. Huge shadow-like creatures emerged between the stars. Their eyes glowed crimson. "They cannot be allowed to claim the Heart Star." "I don't understand!" "You will." The old woman stepped forward and pressed a glowing hand against Amara's forehead. Memories exploded inside her mind. Ancient cities floating among clouds. Warriors wielding light. Twelve symbols burning across stone temples. A child wrapped in silver cloth. A woman crying. A man placing the same necklace around the child's neck. Then— Pain. Blinding pain. Amara screamed. She woke on the floor of her living room. The necklace lay against her chest. Tobi was kneeling beside her. "Amara!" She blinked rapidly. "What happened?" "You collapsed." "I..." She looked around. Everything appeared normal. Except... The letter had changed. New words slowly appeared across the paper. They know you've awakened. The writing faded. A loud crash came from outside. Both of them rushed to the window. Standing across the street was a tall man dressed in a black coat despite the rain. He wasn't moving. He was simply watching the house. His eyes reflected silver light. Slowly... He smiled. Then he lifted one hand. On the back of it was the mark of a black eclipse. Amara instinctively stepped backward. The necklace around her neck grew warm. The man spoke, though he was too far away for his voice to carry. Yet somehow... She heard him clearly. "We've finally found you." A bolt of lightning split the sky. When the light faded... The man was gone. Only a single black feather remained where he had stood, drifting to the rain-soaked ground. Amara tightened her grip on the necklace, her heartbeat pounding in her ears. For the first time, she realized that her grandmother's stories had never been fairy tales. Someone was hunting her. And whatever had awakened within her had only just begun.
