Chapter 3

I woke up and stretched in my bed. I couldn't tell you when I last slept so good. I knew that Ruby was coming home today, so I made sure to get myself up now instead of laying in bed for awhile longer. After getting a shower and getting dressed, I decided to go downstairs to get myself breakfast. As I was walking down the stairs I heard the sound of the cutest laugh. I turned the corner into the dinning room, when I saw Chase, a little girl, and an older women. Chase looked up and saw me and smiled. "Ah, good morning. Let me introduce you to my daughter and mom." Chase said as he looked at me with a smile. It was a smile that could make you melt. "Lilly, this is my mom Alexis and my daughter Ruby. Alexis and Ruby this is Lilly, she is to be our new nanny." I knelt down so I was at Ruby's height. "Hello Ruby, it is so nice to meet you. I think we will have a lot of fun together." Ruby shyly hid behind her father and smiled. "She can take some time to warm up to you,". said Chase "That is okay, I am sure we will be friends in not time." Chase's mom looked and me and spoke "Lilly so what made you come to Ocean City? I heard that you moved here from Pennsylvania." "I wanted to work with children and I thought that being a nanny would be a good fit for me. Also, I have always wanted to experience life outside of Pennsylvania." I replied back to her. It seemed as though she was judging me or trying to see if I was lying. It made me uncomfortable to have her stare at me like that and I wasn't sure how to react. So I just stood there and smiled at her. "Well, I need to get going. I have an appointment with my hair stylist. Chase dear I am sure you are busy and have a lot of work to do. So Lilly why don't you take Ruby and find something to do." said Rose in an irritated tone. I took Ruby's hand and we went upstairs towards her room. I did not know what Rose's problem was but I really hoped it was just because she needed her morning coffee. The rest of the day went along well and I spent it getting to know Ruby and she started to open up to me more and more. I was so excited to be here with her, for she was the cutest little girl. After tucking Ruby in for bed I headed to my own room. I sat on the balcony and watched the moon shine over the ocean. Chase left shortly after his mom and he hasn't returned home. It had me wondering if it was like this frequently. Ruby needs her father in her life and if he is gone all the time due to work, I can understand the loneliness she must feel.
