"And what's my gain if I do this?" he asked, his eyes narrowing.

I bit my bottom lips, contemplating on what to say. I had stupidly asked him to be my boyfriend for the rest of the getaway. Something I knew I shouldn't do. "Anything!" I replied. "I'll give you anything you want."

He took a step closer, leaning over. I unknowingly moved back, afraid he would hear the sound of my heart beat. I shouldn't be catching these feelings. Loving Alexander Dart was forbidden.

"Even if I want your body?" he asked in his usual deep voice that sent shivers down my spine.

*****

Just a week before her wedding, Chloe's fiancé broke up with her without a valid reason. Her desperate pleas fell on deaf ears. Heartbroken, she picked up the pieces of her shattered dignity and walked away from his life.

All she needed was a month-long trip to heal and put herself back together. But never in her wildest dreams did she expect to run into her ex-fiancé and his newly wedded wife. He had played her all along.

What was meant to be a simple getaway turned into a game of revenge. If he was a player, she needed to show him she was the master of the game.

A fake relationship. A proposal. Kisses. And the perfect rebound guy- Alexander Dart, her brother’s best friend.

Falling for him was never part of the plan. He wasn’t supposed to be anything more than a distraction. But Alexander doesn’t play by the rules.

Will he heal her heart or shatter it beyond repair?

1. Bloody Loser
CHLOE I giggled happily, showing the picture of a white wedding dress to William, who stared at the phone screen with a bored look. “What do you think, babe? It will look good on me, right?” I asked, grinning from ear to ear until my cheekbones hurt. I just couldn't contain my happiness. Sucking in a deep breath, I closed my eyes fantasizing about my wedding with William. A bright smile formed on my face before I knew it. It was something I had gotten used to. Daydreaming. It was a week until our wedding, but it seemed like ages. I had waited for three years, so one more week wouldn't hurt, right? I couldn't wait to officially tie the knot and be called Mrs. Moore. Fast-forward to the part when he would kiss me, surrounded by our friends and families. Damn! My cheeks flushed, turning red. That was my most-awaited moment. Then on our wedding night, William might just tear off my wedding dress.... I snapped my eyes open, shaking off the naughty thoughts that were about to fill my head. “I'm going with this dress!” I remarked, smacking my lips. That was the tenth time I had said that in ten minutes. Almost all the dresses seemed to catch my eye. I guessed all brides were like this—on cloud nine. William was silent the whole time. No, scratch that. He had been acting indifferent for about two weeks now, but I didn't read much meaning to it, thinking he was weighed down by the stress from the wedding preparation. “Liam, what's wrong?” I asked, taking a quick glance at him. “Let's talk after I purchase this dress,” I muttered, but he held my hand. “There won't be any need to do that,” he said in a low voice. My brows furrowed in confusion. What was he saying? Why wouldn't there be any need to buy a dress? What was I supposed to wear to the wedding? My voice cracked a bit as I forced a chuckle. “What are you saying, Liam? I haven't gotten a dress yet!” I pointed out. “Because there will be no wedding,” he replied. I squinted my eyes, staring at him with an amused expression. Was he saying this to get a reaction from me? William was fond of making jokes, I know that, but this had gone too extreme. “I'm not in the mood for your jokes, Liam!” I mumbled, picking up my phone again. He didn't say a word after that, making me face him with a raised eyebrow. Usually, he would burst into laughter after making one of his silly pranks, but his expression was different this time. “You can't possibly be serious about that, right? Why won't there be a wedding?” I asked, my eyes searching his frantically like I could find answers from them. “Let's break up, Chloe!” he said firmly, without mincing words. His statement came as a punch in the gut. I could feel energy being sapped out of my body. If this was a bad dream, could someone please wake me up? It was a week until our wedding, for crying out loud! Invites had been sent already, the wedding hall had been chosen too! “Why should we break up? What happened?” I asked, my tone shifting to panic. Cupping his cheeks, I tried kissing him, but he pushed me away, standing up. “Talk to me, babe! We can fix this. If you are worried about the wedding costs, I'm ready to support you with whatever amount you need from my savings.” I may come off as desperate because, indeed, I was desperate! This was someone I'd came to love and expect to spend the rest of my life with. How could I easily let go of him? Just like that? “Or if you feel you're not ready for the 'martial commitment' thing, we could postpone the wedding until when you're prepared. Calling off our wedding is a bit too much,” I added, standing up too. “I never said I'd be interested in you marrying again if I call off the wedding now,” he said coldly. Why was he suddenly sounding like a stranger? He went on, “Don't you get it now, or are you pretending not to? We are over, Chloe! I want nothing to do with you anymore.” Various thoughts ran through my mind for possible reasons why he would ask for a break-up. Then suddenly, it clicked! “Is it because I didn't allow you to have access to my body? We will have s*x, Liam. It's just a few days left, we can hold on till then,” I spouted, trying to talk sense into him. “It's not that. I just want you out of my life,” he retorted blankly. The last time I checked, we weren't in any form of argument. I mean, things have been going smoothly so far. So what changed? And now a break-up? How easy for him to say. We had been together for two years as friends, before he eventually asked me out, and we started dating. To sum up the total years we'd spent together, five years wasn't a joke! “And what exactly did I do, William? Give me a good reason! Make me understand this madness!” I half-yelled in a trembling voice. Tears slowly clouded my vision, making my eyes sting. He just stared at me, without responding. His unbothered expression got me pissed off. William was a type that never wanted to see me cry, but now he was the cause of my tears? How ironic! “Is there another woman?” I couldn't stop myself from asking. That was the only plausible reason I could think of. His countenance went sour, a frown etched on his face. “Are you being serious right now? How could you even think of that?!” “What else do you want me to think, Liam? You suddenly asked for a breakup, and you're not giving a tangible explanation! Do you expect me to just willingly accept this…what do I call it? This is ridiculous! Are you planning to just throw away our love? Our friendship? The years we spent together?” I asked. He suddenly grabbed me by my waist, pulling me closer. He leaned over like he wanted to kiss me. Subconsciously, my eyes went shut, and I pouted my lips, expecting his lips to mine. But it never came. Forcing my eyelids open, my gaze met the disgusted look on his face, and before I could blink, I was already on the ground. I landed on my butt. He had let go of my wait. He slipped his hands in his pockets, staring down at me. With a smug smile playing on his lips, he added, “There's no spark, Chloe. It's not just there anymore.” His words dropped with mockery. I stood up, shutting my eyes tightly as I clenched my fist. That was the only way to suppress the anger I was feeling - it wasn't pain anymore. Or was it the two overwhelming emotions? Did he have fun playing with me? Angered at each passing minute, I couldn't stand the smirk on his lips. I raised my hand, and with a swift motion, I slapped him across his left cheek. His eyes widened in shock. Clearly, he hadn't seen that coming. “What was I to you the whole time? A toy you can just use and dump when you're done playing with it?” My voice cracked. I refused to give William the satisfaction of seeing me cry. What would it accomplish anyway? Only a gloated sense of achievement for him and further bruising my ego. “If a break-up is what you want. Let's have it.” I swallowed hard as soon as I said it. I didn't know if I meant it though. It was hard to let go, really hard. "Now you're being reasonable," he said. My breath caught. He meant it. Though it sounds foolish, I was still hoping all of this was a joke. Sucking in a deep breath, I took a few steps closer to him. “And remember, you didn't call off the shots, but I did," I added in the most confident voice I could muster. What did I just do? With shaky legs, I went into the room and packed my things into a suitcase. It was a quick one as I was only staying apartment for the weekend. Upon returning to the living room, William was engrossed in his phone. He paused, casting a brief, unrepentant glance my way. “I almost forgot,” I muttered, removing the ring from my finger. I threw it at him, not caring if it would hit him or not. “Bloody loser!” I cursed under my breath, glaring at him before finally walking out.
