Let Me Go Book 2 of the Contract

Chapter 1 Bora’s POV My name is Bora, and I never thought my life would become something I was ashamed of. Right now, I’m doing something I never imagined I would do. Simon has forced me and one of my closest friends, Jora, to spy on the kingdom. He wants something from them, power, control, and most importantly, the throne. He believes if he knows their weaknesses, he can take everything from them. And he made sure I understood what would happen if I refused. He threatened to kill my parents. Deep down, I already feel like I’ve lost them. When Simone took over the pack, he gave everyone a choice. He told them if they didn’t want to stay under his rule, they could leave. Many did. My parents were among them. They begged me to come with them. They begged me to leave before Simone destroyed everything. But I stayed. I stayed because of my mate. Reman. At the time, I believed he was my future. I believed he was the one person who would always choose me. Now I’m not so sure. Reman is Simone’s Beta now, and he keeps promising me that soon he will announce us publicly as mates. He tells me he’s just waiting for the right time. So I stayed. I stayed because I loved him. We sleep in the same room every night. We act like a normal couple behind closed doors, but lately, something has changed. He comes home later and later. I try not to blame him. I understand he has responsibilities as Beta. And honestly, I’m barely around anymore. Most of my time is spent inside the kingdom, pretending I belong there while secretly gathering information for Simone. I hate it. I hate lying. I hate pretending to be someone I’m not. If they ever find out what I’m doing, I know the punishment will be death. And I don’t want to die. Not yet. I still have dreams. I want pups. I want a family. Reman promised me that once we were officially announced as mates, we would start trying. He told me we would have a beautiful life together. But lately, my wolf has been restless. The mark on my neck suddenly starts burning. I gasp, reaching up and touching it. It feels like fire spreading through my skin. “Storm?” I whisper. My wolf begins whimpering inside my mind. Something is wrong. “What’s wrong?” I ask her. But she doesn’t answer. She only continues crying until suddenly pain tears through my body. I collapse forward, clutching my stomach. It feels like a thousand knives are stabbing me from the inside. I scream out, unable to stop the tears falling down my face. The pain lasts for minutes, but it feels like hours. Then, finally, Storm speaks. Her voice is broken. “Mate…” I swallow, trying to breathe. “What about him?” Her next words destroy me. “Mate is with another female… in our bed.” My entire body freezes. No. That’s impossible. “Storm, no,” I whisper. “You’re wrong.” But even as I say the words, my heart already knows. “Reman would never do that,” I tell her. “He told me he was only ours. He promised.” I wanted to believe him. I needed to believe him. But then the pain came again. This time it was worse. Storm screamed inside my head, and I felt her pain mixed with my own. The mark on my neck burned hotter than ever before. I fell to the floor, coughing. When I looked at my hand, there was blood. I stared at it in shock. Twenty minutes. That’s how long it took before the pain finally disappeared. Twenty minutes of feeling my mate betray me. Twenty minutes of feeling my bond with him break apart piece by piece. I couldn’t stay here. I needed answers. I needed to see it with my own eyes. I rushed to Jora’s room and knocked several times. A few moments later, footsteps approached. The door opened. “Bora?” Jora looked at me with wide eyes. “Why are you up so late? You look horrible. What happened?” I stepped inside and closed the door behind me. Then I told her everything. I told her about the pain. I told her what Storm said. I told her I needed to know the truth. “Jora, you can stay here,” I said, shaking my head. “But I’m leaving. I need to find out if Reman is really being unfaithful to me.” She studied my face. “Bora…” “I have to know,” I whispered. “I need to see it for myself.” Jora looked down the hallway, making sure nobody was listening. Then she grabbed her jacket. “I’m coming with you.” My eyes widened. “Jora..” “No,” she interrupted. “You aren’t doing this alone. If we get stopped, we’ll use the excuse we talked about. We’re going to visit family who are sick. It isn’t completely a lie.”,A sad smile crossed her face. “Now come on. Let’s go.” And that’s what we did. We left. They had no idea we were coming back. I wanted to catch him. I needed proof. Maybe Storm was wrong. Maybe he had been drinking and lost control. I could forgive that. Maybe the female had drugged him and he had no idea what was happening. I could forgive that too. Because Reman always told me he loved me. He told me he would never hurt me. He told me we would have pups. He told me we would always be together. But betrayal? That was something different. That was something I wasn’t sure I could survive. We didn’t shift. We didn’t want anyone sensing us as a threat. Instead, we got into my car and drove toward the royal gates. The entire drive, my heart pounded. What if it was true? What if the man I loved had destroyed everything we had? When we reached the gates, the guards stepped forward, holding up their hands. My stomach twisted. I just hoped they believed me. “Bora?” one of the guards asked. “Why are you and Jora leaving so late?” I forced myself to stay calm. “Sorry,” I said. “A few family members are sick, and they don’t have anyone to help them. We’re going to stay with them for a few days.” The guard studied me for a moment before nodding. “Alright. I’ll make sure the royal knows what’s happening. Drive safely.” He stepped back. “If you need anything, herbs, supplies, or help of any kind, send a link. We’ll come quickly.” I nodded. “Thank you.” The gates slowly opened. As we drove through, I looked back one last time. I didn’t know what I was going to find when I got home. But I knew one thing. My life was about to change forever. The drive would normally take over three hours. But tonight, I wasn’t driving normally. I needed answers. And I needed them fast. If we weren’t stopped by the guards or the authorities, we would be home in two hours. Two hours until I found out if my mate was the man I believed him to be… or the man who would break my heart forever.
