Did I hold the "key" to the mystery? Its hiding place was consistent with Host's strategy of concealing the cash in the envelopes, strongly suggesting it was important. The "key" question being, what did it open?
I turned it over in my hand. The key was not large, like one to a file cabinet—only a lot more substantial. It reminded me of a key I saw recently…but where? The only thing I could see clearly was F401 written on one side. On the other side were scratch marks. Host may have filed off any identifying information.
