On the Run

Anthony gently placed Melissa on the couch, he went to walk to the kitchen to make a call when she reached for him. “Please don’t go.” Anthony stayed seated next to her and pulled his phone out. “Father, it’s happened, I need to get Melissa out of here.” Melissa was confused again? Who else had this happened to and why was he not in jail? “Give me 20 there will be a chopper on the roof, use the stairs and be careful son.” Anthony hung up the phone and looked at Melissa “Do you have anything that you need from your bathroom or room?” Melissa looked at him strange, “Melissa we need to get out of here, is there anything you brought that you can’t live without?” Anthony asked as he put his hand out for Melissa. “I need a new shirt, and that’s it.” Anthony took Melissa to his bedroom, packed a few things and then went to her room. Melissa changed shirts quickly and tossed a few things into the bag that he had. Anthony led Melissa to a strange door at the end of the hall that she hadn’t noticed upon her arrival a few days ago. Anthony unlocked the door and it swung open to reveal stairs. “It isn’t safe to take the elevator, when we get to the top there should be a helicopter waiting for us. I’ll go out first and make sure it’s safe, if he gets his hands on you I won’t see you again. Not alive anyway.” Melissa felt sick to her stomach. She couldn’t figure out how this happened. The door flung open and Anthony motioned for her to come out. She followed him to the helicopter, stayed low and remembered her seatbelt this time. As they were lifting off the pad, the other roof entrance door flew open, seeing Vincent and his goons exit with guns drawn, Melissa was terrified but grateful to be unreachable.               Melissa was terrified of the situation but felt safe with Anthony, she fought sleep but soon she couldn’t and the darkness took over. Melissa knew they had landed but could barely stand, her muscles were sore from trying to fight Vincent off. Anthony lifted her out of her seat and held her tight against his chest as he transported her to a car. After several hours in the car Melissa woke up. “Where are we?” She was groggy but could see lush trees and winding roads ahead. “We’re heading to a friend’s cabin deep in the woods until my father finishes dealing with Vincent. It’s been fully stocked for us to ride out several weeks if necessary, along with full security.” Melissa couldn’t believe that this was happening and what did Anthony mean earlier when he said “it’s happening again”? She needed to find out but not right now. They turned suddenly and pulled up a long drive that ended with a quaint wood cabin with a stunning wrap around porch. “Were here, stay in the car until I am fully briefed.” Melissa was irritated with these words but before she could argue Anthony was out the door.   Anthony “Sir everything is set up and ready for you and miss Young, there are several vehicles parked in the woods in extreme emergency, there will be security here around the clock teams of 2 for each of you in case separation is necessary and additional personnel assigned to the home to aid in an escape of necessary, again only if necessary. Additionally sir there are cameras in every room of the house as well as cameras with night vision that cover every corner of the outside of the home. All feeds have been sent to your phone. One last thing sir, this folder was delivered to you today. Anthony took the folder and realized it was the information on Melissa that he asked his friend for. “Put it in my room along with my brief case and computer. I’ll deal with it later.” Anthony opened the door indicating to Melissa that it was safe to get out. He put his hand out to help her and she reluctantly took it. “Thank you.” It was hard to deny that there was still chemistry between them, but who could think of that when someone was after them. Not to mention how Anthony had treated her the day prior. Anthony led Melissa to the house, showed her around the home, it was beautiful and boasted a large beautiful kitchen, 4 large bedrooms and bathrooms, several other large rooms and a massive fireplace. “I know you hate me for what I said and it’s unlikely that you will forgive me, but, I need you close to me in case we need to leave quickly. It’s unlikely he will find us.” Anthony explained most of the safety measures to Melissa so she would hopefully feel comfortable. “We will take the rooms on the top floor and leave the bottom for the men.” “How will we get out if we need to leave if were on the top floor?” Melissa questioned. Anthony pointed to the end of the hall, there was a door “That leads to the garage. Please try not to worry, you will be protected.” Anthony slipped his hand into Melissa’s “I won’t let anything happen to you.” “I know you won’t Anthony.” Melissa smiled and pulled her hand from his and walked into the room he showed her. This room didn’t have a massive tub, but it had a large shower and that was just what Melissa needed.   Anthony went into his room, he wanted to read the report on Melissa. He needed to know everything about her. He opened the file and began to read about Melissa’s past, he could see how well she did in school and why she was accepted into great schools. She was on the debate team, shocker since she was phenomenal at arguing everything. Anthony chuckled to himself and kept reading. He saw a picture of Melissa with her ex, his name was Paul and Anthony was pretty sure he was a di**, he read on to confirm his initial thoughts. Paul put Melissa through a lot he cheated, got another woman pregnant, and tried to get her pregnant what the Fu**? There was a written confession from two close friends that admitted Paul had tried to sabotage Melissa’s birth control. This was the reason for her current internal method. What was wrong with this guy? Then Anthony thought, what’s wrong with me, accusing her of such things. Anthony was pulled from his thought when his phone rang, it was his father. “Anthony, are you two safe?” “Yes, what’s going on there?” Anthony heard his father’s worried voice and knew something wasn’t right. “Anthony, Vincent wants you to know that he was just playing with Melissa and it’s safe for you to return.” Anthony laughed, and said “Father we won’t be back to New York until his case is closed with the firm. We won’t return to Miami either.” Anthony hung up. He knew Vincent wouldn’t hurt his father because he needed him. He was certain that the call wasn’t long enough to be traced but would alert security.   Melissa Melissa took a long hot shower and couldn’t shake the events from that day, she knew Anthony and the security team would keep her safe. But she was still worried. Melissa got dressed in some yoga pants and a tank that were brought to the cabin for her. She was hungry and made her way to the kitchen, she figured the least she could do was make something little for the man that saved her life. She hadn’t forgiven him for what he said to her, but he saved her from Vincent and his goons. She could hear Anthony coming down the stairs when she put her home made pizza in the oven. She poured two glasses of wine and brought them in front of the fire where Anthony was sitting. “I guess I should start with thanking you profusely for saving me from Vincent, I don’t know what would have happened if you hadn’t come when you did. I really owe you.” Anthony took the wine and looked at Melissa for a second, maybe this was his opportunity. “Melissa I want you to know how terrible I feel about what I said to you in the elevator. I shouldn’t have accused you of anything, I was wrong to shove my past in your face and I am truly sorry. If you really think you owe me, then please consider forgiving me and allowing us to move forward.” Melissa didn’t know what to say, she wasn’t expecting that as a response. She thought quickly. “Ok, that’s fair, but I have a question that I need answered. I do believe that it’s related to this.” Anthony knew where she was going, “What did you mean when you called your father and said it’s happening again?” Anthony signed and knew that he had to spill everything that had happened between him, Vincent and Stacey. He explained this long drawn out situation where Stacey was head over heels in love with Anthony until she met Vincent. Vincent had pulled out all the stops and showed Stacey what his money and power could do. Stacey wasn’t going to willingly go with Vincent until he threatened to ra** her. He told her to leave me willingly and he would take his time and not hurt her. She went and stayed with him willingly after that. Until she decided a few months later that she was pregnant. He didn’t want her and told Anthony it was his. She wanted to have a normal life and family. Long story short turns out the baby was never Anthony’s and when she lost is she went running back to Vincent. He took her back but used her as a play thing. She thought she would be his one and only and when she got jealous he beat her. Anthony took her back once more like an i***t and obviously history repeated itself. He told himself that was the last time and kicked her out for good. Anthony continued to explain that’s when he swore woman off and wanted to be alone for a while. That obviously lasted a day or so. Melissa looked at his shocked and didn’t know what to say. Suddenly she flew off the couch and ran to the kitchen, she had been so involved in his story that she almost burnt the pizza. Thankfully it was just right. Melissa and Anthony ate their pizza and continued light conversation, though there seemed to be a new understanding between them. They cleared the dishes together and got everything cleaned up. They both agreed that it had been a long day and they both wanted sleep. Anthony followed Melissa up the stairs. He preferred it this way since it was the best view he had all day, he loved watching her voluminous a** as it went up the stairs. They said goodnight, as Melissa was walking into her room, Anthony called to her from the other room. “If you need anything I’m just across the hall and there is security on either side of the hall.” Melissa smiled, thanked him and shut the door. The house was quiet and Melissa wasn’t ready for that. She laid in bed for a while but couldn’t sleep. Every time her eyes closed she saw flashbacks of Vincent attacking her and how close he was to assaulting her. Melissa turned her little light on and began to read a book on her phone. Melissa was startled when a light knock came to her door. “Who is it?” She called out, “It’s Anthony. I saw you light on and wanted to check on you.” Melissa opened the door letting him in, “I couldn’t sleep. I keep having flashbacks from today.” Melissa climbed back into her bed and placed the covers over her legs. Anthony followed her and sat on the edge of the bed. “Do you want me to sleep with you?” Anthony immediately regretted the way that came out. But was relieved when Melissa smiled and said “excuse me?” Anthony smiled back “you know what I mean, maybe if I am close by like I was in the car ride here, you’ll sleep better.” Melissa thought long and hard about this, he was probably right. But last time the shared a bed things were extremely steamy, until the morning when things were awkward. “Promise we will just sleep?” Melissa asked shyly. “Yes, were both exhausted and we need to rest.” Melissa patted the empty spot on the bed next to her. Anthony climbed in, without thinking he pulled Melissa into him and pulled the covers over them both. Melissa was surprised but didn’t fight this action. She felt comfortable and soon the darkness of sleep took over them both.
