Chapter 2: Coffee, Cameras, and Curiosity
Two days had passed since the unexpected encounter on the street, yet Elina couldn’t stop thinking about Lucas—the photographer with the easy smile and eyes that seemed to hold both mystery and warmth.
She sat in her favorite café, “The Brew Corner,” near her office, sketching a new logo for a client. The aroma of roasted coffee beans filled the air, and soft jazz played in the background.
Her phone buzzed with a notification—an unknown number.
> Unknown: “If I remember right, artists need caffeine to create.
—Lucas (the guy who nearly destroyed your sketches last time)”
Elina blinked in surprise, then smiled before typing back:
> Elina: “How did you get my number?”
Lucas: “A little bird named Sophie from the coffee shop gave it to me. I bribed her with a cappuccino.”
Elina laughed softly to herself. She remembered the cheerful barista who had served her earlier—so that’s how.
A few moments later, a familiar voice spoke from behind her. “Mind if I join you, designer?”
She turned around to see Lucas, camera slung casually around his neck, a charming grin on his face.
“Lucas! You really don’t waste time, do you?” she said, trying to sound composed though her heart skipped a beat.
He shrugged. “Life’s short. And good company is rare.”
He sat opposite her, placing his coffee cup on the table. “So, what are you working on?”
“Client logo,” Elina said, showing him her sketchbook. “Nothing exciting.”
Lucas leaned forward, genuinely intrigued. “Are you kidding? This is amazing. You’ve got an eye for emotion in design. That’s rare.”
She blushed lightly. “You really like to compliment people, don’t you?”
“Only when I mean it,” he replied smoothly.
For a moment, silence fell between them—but it wasn’t awkward. It was comfortable, filled with quiet curiosity. Lucas began scrolling through the photos on his camera and handed it to her.
“These are from my last shoot,” he said. “Nature, city life, people—just… moments.”
Elina looked through the pictures. Each shot had a soul, a story. She felt herself drawn into his world—the way he saw beauty in everyday life.
“They’re beautiful,” she whispered.
Lucas smiled softly. “So are your sketches.”
Their eyes met and held for a long moment—long enough for her to feel something shift in her chest, something unfamiliar yet warm.
“Tell me something,” Lucas said suddenly. “What inspires you the most when you design?”
Elina thought for a moment. “Emotion. The way people connect, the little things they feel but never say.”
He nodded slowly. “That’s exactly what I try to capture with my camera. The unsaid.”
They both smiled, realizing how similar they were—two artists trying to tell stories in different forms.
As the café began to close, Lucas stood and slung his camera strap over his shoulder. “Same time tomorrow?” he asked.
Elina hesitated, pretending to think. “Maybe. Depends on whether the photographer brings better coffee this time.”
Lucas laughed, his voice deep and warm. “Deal. I’ll earn that smile again.”
As he walked out into the evening, Elina felt her heart flutter once more. She hadn’t expected to see him again—but now, she couldn’t imagine not wanting to.
