I stepped out the front doors of the pack house. Daisy leaned up against the wall and crossed her arms.
“Finally! Took your time Joshy.” Daisy said pushing herself off the wall.
“My mom held me hostage and made me apologize to my dad.” I said standing there.
“Come on. Let’s go find a place.” She started off down the road.
“Where exactly and what exactly will we be doing?” I asked putting my hands in my pockets.
“I don’t know and waisting time.” Daisy replied.
“Vague.” I said as we walked. The silence started to become uncomfortable. “Why didn’t you ask Liddie and Andy to come too? Or ask them first.” I asked and she looked at me.
“Because watching two people make out the entire time would be annoying!” She said in a angry tone.
“Ew! They aren’t like that!” I said looking away.
“Oh my gosh you’re so dumb. Were you always this dumb or did eclipse make you dumber?” She asked in a almost insulting way.
“Come on. I just don’t want to think of it like that.” I said as Daisy started off the road and down a path. I stood there for a moment and she stopped.
“Come on!” She said impatiently and I sighed following her.
“I bet you a twenty they’re mates.” Daisy said and I scoffed.
“I’m not taking that bet.” I said as we ducked under a low branch.
“Because you know he probably already feels the mate bond with her.” Daisy stopped and turned to me. “Has he ever said that?” She asked.
“If he feels a mate bond already? No. He makes jokes he’s going to mark her if they are mates.” I said walking past her and stepping up onto a fallen tree.
“Yeah, those aren’t jokes Joshy.” Daisy said grabbing onto my shirt as she stepped up almost pulling me down.
“Hey! I would’ve offered my hand if you needed help!” I said.
“Take your clammy hands? No thanks.” Daisy said jumping off the other side. “Over here.” She pointed and I looked over at a small creek.
“Hey! I don’t have clammy hands!” I said jumping down and following. Daisy sat down and patted the earth next to her. I sat down and looked at the water as it ran.
“Do it like old times.” I heard Daisy say. I rolled my eyes and touched the ground. Flowers started to grow from the ground and Daisy squealed as daisy’s sprouted all around us. “You remembered!” She said picking one.
“I was only gone for a few years. Come on.” I said picking one and looking at it.
“Eight.” She said and I looked at her.
“What? You were counting?” I said as she looked at me.
“I just…” She bit her lip and looked at me with puppy dog eyes. I started to grow confused. “Missed your brother so much.” She started laughing and pushed me. “You should’ve seen your face! It was shear panic!!!” Daisy started to laugh even harder.
“You scared the sh*t out of me. I’m not going to lie.” I said taking a deep breath and exhaling.
“Oh goddess Josh would it be so terrible?” Daisy asked.
“What?” I asked looking at her and she scoffed.
“Oh my gosh.” She shook her head. “Never mind.” Daisy brought her knees up to her chin and watched the water. I laid back and looked up at the sky. The sun was setting and the darkness was starting to grow.
“Didn’t you have enough laying around for a day?” Daisy asked.
“I have to start training tomorrow. So let me have this one day.” I said.
“You’re so lazy. My dad is going to hate that.” She started poking my side.
“I’m not lazy! They chose me for the Beta job because of my high marks in Eclipse, I’ll have you know.” I closed my eyes as I bragged. I suddenly felt a hand on my chest and looked down.
“Oh yes, so I’ve heard.” She said in a weird tone. I stared at her hand she jumped on me and grabbed my hands pinning my legs with hers.
“Oh come on, get off me.” I said sighing.
“Fight back!” She said giggling.
“I’m not going to fight back.” I struggled under her weight.
“Oh come on Josh.” She let go of my hands. I grabbed her waist and for a moment she looked shocked. I moved her back to where she was. She stared at me a moment. “You’re the only one that never fights back. You know that right?” She said.
“Okay?” I said as I stood up. I held out my hand to help her up. She stared at it for a moment and then slapped it. She stood up her self and dusted herself off.
“Eager to get back?” She asked me.
“Not really. Just it’s getting dark.” I said and she looked at me.
“Joshy please don’t tell me you’re afraid of the dark!” She said giving me a look.
“I’m not afraid of the dark. If someone sees us come out alone together in the dark, they’re going to assume things.” I said and she started laughing.
“That’s what you’re scared of?!” Daisy looked at me like I was crazy.
“My mom already gave me sh*t because we were in my room alone.” I said and she smiled. She grabbed my shirt and yanked me down kissing me. I instantly pushed her and wiped my mouth.
“What’s wrong with you!?” I tried not to raise my voice.
“There, now people can talk.” Daisy started walking.
“What was that about?” I followed.
“Nothing.” She said climbing over the log.
“I don’t… I just… Daisy.” I said as I followed.
“If I knew it would get you all flustered, I would’ve done it sooner!” Daisy giggled.
