Chapter 5
Raven’s POV
I couldn't help but feel a surge of frustration as I walked into the training arena.
The woman who had been assigned as my teacher, despite her clear dislike for me, was waiting there with a smug expression on her face. It was very clear that she took pleasure in my discomfort just like how Venus treated me, relishing the opportunity to belittle and undermine me at every turn.
Speaking of Venus, how was she faring now that I was gone? Did she miss me?
She was my cousin, so of course I would have a little bit of trouble forgetting the bond we shared.
If only she was nicer to me. Being rejected wasn’t a bad thing. People got rejected all the time. But being treated like a piece of garbage every time was something I didn’t like and I wished she would have treated me better.
I hoped she was better now without me in the pack. Maybe she would come here to visit or…
“Punch harder!” A voice broke through my thoughts as I saw Emilia walk in with her eyes narrowed to me. “What are you doing standing around? Shouldn’t you be doing something? The exercises I gave you won’t help you if you stand around doing nothing.”
When the alpha had told her to teach me some training styles, I had been eager to learn the ways of the wolf warriors, to develop the skills necessary to protect the pack I was in and uphold our honor.
But instead, I found myself facing a teacher who seemed determined to hinder my progress and mock my abilities.
“I need you to help me again learn how to…” before I could finish my statement, she walked to me and led me through a series of exercises that were nothing more than a mockery of true training.
They were basic, uninspiring, and failed to challenge or push me to any limits. Even children could do them without trouble. What? Did she think I was weak? It was as if she was intentionally holding me back, denying me the opportunity to grow and excel.
I watched as others around me, under the guidance of different instructors, engaged in intense sparring sessions, honing their combat skills with precision and determination. Their movements were fluid and powerful, showcasing their potential as formidable warriors.
The difference between their training and mine was huge, fueling a deep sense of resentment within me.
I wanted so badly to tell her how I felt but I knew if I said something it would end up pushing me in the limelight as a troublemaker.
After a few minutes of watching her watch a few comedy clips on her phone and laughing out loud like they were really funny, I knew it was time to say something.
This was a new pack, I would not take the old insults from the last pack into this one. I would say something and stop her from being on my nerves this way.
I approached her, my voice filled with determination and a hint of anger. "Enough of these lame exercises," I demanded, my eyes locked with hers. "I see others being challenged, learning how to fight and defend themselves. I demand that you teach me how to truly train like a wolf warrior as the alpha of the pack has intended. These exercises you teach me won’t help me be better at anything."
She looked at me, her eyes filled with amusement as she burst into laughter. The sound echoed through the training arena, drawing the attention of those around us. I felt a flush of embarrassment wash over me, but I refused to back down.
"You?" she scoffed, her laughter dripping with disgust. "You think you have what it takes to be a wolf warrior? You show up into this pack that I grew up in and you think you have the right to boss me around. I am your instructor and whatever I say goes. Don’t talk to me that way again lest I beat you to the ground. I am itching for it, don’t give me an excuse to do that. You're weak, incapable of handling the true training that others are undergoing. Now get back to squatting or leg raises or something.”
Her words stung, fueling the fire within me. I refused to let her dismiss me so easily. "I am not weak," I retorted, my voice steady despite the anger working beneath the surface. "I am here to learn, to become the best warrior I can be. It is your duty as my teacher to guide me, to push me beyond my limits."
She regarded me with a mix of amusement and annoyance.
Looking around, she found people staring at us which had her frowning even more. "Very well," she relented, a smug smile playing at the corner of her lips. "If you truly believe that you have what it takes, then I want you to show me what you have. But be warned, I won't be easy, and I won’t hold back.”
A surge of determination coursed through my veins as I prepared myself to show her what I was made of.
I stepped into the ring, my heart pounding in my chest as I put up my hands in a fighting stance, ready to show her what I was capable of.
Emilia stood on the other side, a smirk playing on her lips.
“I do hope you know how to throw hands,” she laughed. “Cos it’s going to be a very painful experience for you.”
The room was filled with fellow trainees, their eyes fixed on us, waiting for the fight to unfold. I knew that the woman wanted to humiliate me, to prove once and for all that I was unworthy of standing amongst them. But I would show them how wrong they were.
I had a tough skin. I would win today.
“I do hope you’ve got a tough skin, because this is gonna hurt.”
