Cass never asked for a new pack and school.

She never asked for an Alpha family.

And she definitely never asked for him.

At seventeen, Cass’s life is turned upside down when her mother finds a second-chance mate - Alpha Cedric of the powerful Blue Mountain Pack. One move, one ceremony, and suddenly Cass is living in an Alpha house, starting over at a new school, and counting the days until she can escape.

The problem?

Her new stepbrother.

Adrian is everything Cass avoids - an Alpha heir, the golden boy of the pack, and the most wanted guy in school. Cold. Controlled. Untouchable. From the moment he scents her, his behavior shifts from distant to openly hostile… and no one understands why.

Especially Cass.

He looks at her like he hates her. But when another boy asks her to dance, Adrian looks ready to lose control to protec what is his.

Pack law is clear.

Mate bonds cannot be completed before eighteen.

Physical claiming of minors is forbidden.

And whatever pull exists between them is dangerous, unresolved - and absolutely illegal.

Chapter 1 - Blue Mountain Pack
Cass The pressure hits before the sign. It slides over my skin like a heavy blanket, thick with authority. My wolf stirs, uneasy, pacing inside my chest like she’s trying to find a door that isn’t there. I shift in my seat and glance out the window, pretending I’m not affected. Pretending I’m not counting my breaths. “Cass,” my mom says gently, eyes flicking to me for half a second before returning to the road. “You okay?” “Yeah.” I lie automatically. She doesn’t call me out on it. She never does. Instead, she reaches over and squeezes my hand once, warm and grounding. That’s how it’s always been between us. Quiet understanding. No pushing. No pretending things are perfect when they aren’t. We’ve survived too much together for that. The forest thickens as we drive, pines towering on either side like silent sentinels. The air looks colder here, darker somehow. More serious. Even the sky feels higher, stretched thin over mountains that don’t care if I belong. Blue Mountain Pack. My new home. In one week, my mom will stand under Luna’s light and become Luna Viviane - mate to Alpha Cedric, healer of the pack, respected and wanted. And I’ll be… what? Not important enough to matter, but important enough to be watched. My wolf huffs in irritation. "I don’t like this." she mutters. “I know,” I whisper under my breath. My mom smiles faintly. “You talking to yourself again?” “Only the wolf part of me.” I say. “She’s dramatic.” “That tracks.” Mom says dryly. “She gets that from you.” I snort, tension loosening just a little. If anyone can survive this, it’s her. Viviane - beta, doctor, woman who stitched herself back together after my biological father walked out of our lives without so much as a goodbye. She didn’t need an Alpha to be strong. She already was. Which is why Alpha Cedric choosing her still feels surreal. “Remember,” she says, more softly now, “you don’t have to impress anyone. You don’t owe this pack anything.” I swallow. “Even if everyone here thinks I do?” She finally looks at me fully, her gaze sharp and steady. “Especially then.” The Alpha house comes into view around a bend in the road, and my breath catches despite myself. It’s massive, but not flashy. Stone and glass, clean lines, built into the mountain like it grew there naturally. Power without excess. Authority without apology. My wolf goes quiet. That scares me more than if she’d snarled. There are people waiting in the driveway when we pull up. Pack members, guards, a few women with assessing eyes and tight smiles. I recognize that look. We’re measuring you. Don’t disappoint us. I step out of the car and the mountain air rushes in, cold and sharp, filled with scents that aren’t mine. Wolves everywhere. Strong ones. That explains the feeling at the boarder. I straighten my spine. I won’t shrink. I won’t apologize for existing. That’s when I saw a boy. About my age. He’s standing a few feet away from the others, hands in his pockets, posture relaxed in that carefully practiced way that screams Alpha-born. Tall. Broad-shouldered. Dark blond hair that looks like it never misbehaves. He’s laughing at something someone says. Adrian. Even if I hadn’t seen pictures, I’d know who he was. Power hums around him like a live wire. My wolf bristles. "Danger. Be carefull." she whispers. Before I can take another step, his laughter cuts off. His head snaps up. He inhales. His eyes flash gold - bright and sudden, like sunlight hitting a blade. His body goes rigid, every muscle locking into place. His face twists, not in anger exactly, but in something sharper. Shock. Then revulsion. He stares straight at me. My stomach drops. The air thickens, heavy with attention. Conversations falter. I feel it - the subtle shift of a pack noticing when one of their own reacts badly. "What did I do?" my wolf asks, confused and defensive. “Nothing. I don’t know..” I whisper back. Alpha Cedric steps forward smoothly, his presence rolling out like a calming wave. “Viviane,” he says warmly. “Welcome home.” My mom smiles, radiant and sure, and takes his hand. For a moment, Luna’s blessing feels real and right. But Adrian doesn’t move. Doesn’t smile. Doesn’t stop looking at me like I’m something he never should have encountered. I force myself to meet his gaze. "Hi Adrian. Nice to meet you in person ." I try to smile, but it's hard when someone looks at you like that. There’s something there in his eyes when he heard my voice. Something tight and coiled and furious, like he’s holding himself together by sheer will. Then his jaw clenches. His eyes darken. He nods and he looks away like he can’t stand to keep looking at me. Then he walks in to the house. The pack exhales, tension easing, but my heart is pounding so hard it hurts. I don’t know what I just walked into. I only know one thing with absolute certainty. Whatever problem Adrian has with me - it started the moment he smelled me. And it looks that I have my first enemy in here. My mom turns for a sec toward me. "Cass, hurry up. Let's see your room." "Yeah. I'm coming.". I pushed myself to do first step toward the house, then next and another. That's gonna be fun..
