Swan started with all the usual questions about Kate, how long she’d been working here, what she did, and then, ‘What time did she leave that day?’
‘About 2.30. She wanted to be home for Emma getting off the bus. She always met her at the stop.’
‘Do most parents do that for high school kids?’
‘I don’t know. Probably not.’
‘So she was careful about stuff like that. Her house was well locked up.’
‘Not well enough,’ Andre said bitterly.
‘No. Did you see her later?’
‘Yes. I went over to her house for dinner, since the bistro was closed here. She liked to cook for me. Said it gave me a break.’
I frowned. He hadn’t mentioned that to me.
‘What time did you leave?’
‘About nine.’
