Prologue

What would you do when the choice is to save yourself or sacrifice everything for others? When the stakes are life and death, and the right decision feels impossible? I find myself asking that now, haunted by memories of The Lost Mountain. Before that trip, life was simple. We laughed, we made plans, and our weekends were filled with promise. "Let’s have some fun over the weekend!" We didn’t know then that those words were a premonition. We thought it would be like any other trip—until it wasn’t. The mountain changed everything. "Can we promise to stick together until we get out to the exit?" It seemed like a simple question, but fear was already in the air. We all nodded, but none of us knew what it would really cost. We tried everything to escape the nightmare, but nothing worked. The mountain had us trapped. And you know what’s the scariest part? Even when we knew the right thing to do, we chose wrong. We chose fear. We chose ourselves. And that choice changed everything. The scariest thing isn’t the mountain itself—it’s the truth we ignored: that sometimes, even when we know what’s right, we still make the wrong choice. And in the end, that wrong choice might be the one that costs us everything. What if bravery is the only way out? What would you do?
