Chapter 6

The weekend for Zach had been hardcore partying especially Sunday night.

Friday he had met up with Jake and Dean at one of their favourite clubs for drinks.

Saturday his mother had managed to coax him to attend a family get together which was a disaster as always because of Miranda.

The family get together drove him to drinking on Sunday, lucky for him Jake was available and he had managed to snag a French model Marie Duveraux who had been out with her friends.

When he woke up Monday morning he was hungover which was expected. Marie had kept him up at night so he was tired as well.

Marie woke up when she felt Zach get up from bed. She kept quiet and just watched him as he moved around his room getting ready for work. Zachary Lockhart was good in bed just like all her friends had described. The problem was he only did one nights but she was determined to fix that because she wanted to keep him around.

“ Morning darling” Marie husky voice reached Zach’s ears when he sat on the bed to tie his shoes. He felt her slim arms snake around him from the back and a kiss on his neck.

“Morning” he replied. He had enjoyed Marie’s company last night that is why he was not rude to her as he usually is.

“Why are you up so early? You could stay in bed with me all day you are the boss, are you not?” Marie whispered in his ear and playfully nipped his earlobe.

“I can’t I have a meeting soon and I can’t miss work” Zach answered.

“That’s too bad maybe another time then” she said then stood up to get dressed.

They left together and Zach dropped her off at her hotel. He was relieved that she was not those clingy girls he had to rip off him.

When he got to the office his hangover had not let up and he really need an energy boost.

Ava was already waiting for him with a cup off coffee in one hand and a tablet in the other. Her weekend had been laid back she had lunch with her mother on Sunday. Ava had convinced her mother to allow Steven to attend her upcoming party but her mother had to talk to her father first.

“Morning Mr. Lockhart you are a bit late the representatives of Peterson and Co is already in the conference room” Ava said in her usual monotonous voice.

Zach did not bother answering he just picked the necessary file and left for the meeting with Ava following. Luckily he was just going to listen to the presentation so he did not need to stress.

“Go get me coffee at that new café on fifth…um sweet Melrose” Zach ordered Ava when they entered his office after the meeting.

“Sir that would take twenty minutes of precious time. I have to summarise these notes.” Ava protested.

“You are already wasting time” he replied dismissively.

Ava glared at him then left the office ,she collected her purse from her office and went for the elevator.

As she approached the door she saw Arthur from accounting drinking from a cup from sweet Melrose. An idea hit her and she grinned to herself as she followed Arthur back to the elevator.

“Hey Arthur "

“Um …… hello Miss Benson.” Arthur replied cautiously. He had heard about Ava Benson and he was afraid to get in her bad books.

“Can you do me a huge favor? "

“Su-sure what can I do for you?”

“Can I have that cup when you finish your coffee?”

Arthur was dumbfounded by the request that he just handed her the cup like a robot.

“Are you sure you are finished? I don’t want to take away your daily dose of caffeine. "

“No its fine I’m ok”

“Thanks Arthur you are a life saver " Ava said giving him a bright smile.

Arthur turned beet red and as soon as the elevator opened his floor he took flight.

Ava went to the canteen, cleaned the cup and made a cup of coffee. She waited for ten minutes before going up to Zach’s office.

She knocked on Zach’s door and entered after receiving a gruff  come in.

“Your coffee sir” she said to the brooding man who did not even bother to acknowledge her. “Is there anything else you might need sir?”

“You can go.”

Ava exited the office mumbling profanities under her breath. In her office she went straight to work typing the notes from the meeting and replied some emails on behalf of her boss.

Around twelve thirty she decided to go for lunch but as she got up there was a knock on her door and a gorgeous model like woman strolled in.

“Hello I’m Marie Duveraux here to see Zach. " she stated in her calm voice that had a hint of French accent.

“Afternoon Ms. Duveraux I’m sorry but do you have an appointment? "

“No but he will see me do not worry.” Marie answered dismissively as she moved towards Zach’s office.

Ava did not bother stop her or follow because she was not in the mood for an altercation with one of her boss’s flings. She continued to tidy her desk and left for lunch.

When his door opened Zach thought it was Ava and he was prepared to give her a talk down for not knocking but was shocked to see Marie come in.

“Marie what are you doing here?”

“Bonjour Mon amour I had a photo shoot near here and I thought to pass by and say hi and maybe take you to lunch.” Marie said as she came around Zach’s desk and sat on his lap.

“That was very nice of you but I’m too busy for lunch today sorry.”

Marie pouted but on the inside she was looking for another angle to use. There was no way she was going to only have a one time thing with one of the most eligible bachelors.

“Aah that’s too bad. How convenient our … um agency was looking for someone to talk to about booking hotel rooms for us girls when we come to new York for a shoot. It was just my luck I know and suggested you so they sent me to talk to you.”

Zach leaned back, folded his arms across his chest and raised an eyebrow. He knew what Marie was playing at he had women do it to him before.

“Really?”

“oui, oui,why do you look like you don’t believe me?” Marie stated as she stood up and went behind Zach’s chair and start to rub his shoulders.

“Because I don’t Mon Cherie. "

“Don’t be like that.OK so maybe I lied so that I can spend time with you but I can still get the agency to deal with you.”Zach scoffed at that.

“I don’t need your petty deal honey it brings change only” he boasted.

Marie should have been insulted or appalled by his boastfulness but it just turned her on. She loved a man who knew his worth and was not afraid to say. And Zachary Lockhart knew his worth.

“Now if you will excuse me I am swamped with big deals that need my attention."

“Oh so will I see you later?”

“Marie when we hooked up I made it clear it was a one time thing and we had just that.”

“Wait are you dumping me?”

“I can’t dump you if we were never together. "

“You are such a jerk and a…. a….”

“Well I have been called worse honey.You should leave before you make a fool of yourself. " he interrupted her.

Marie  flipped him off then stomped to the door. “Your loss” she said with a flip of her hair.

“I seriously doubt it” Zach replied. Outraged Marie banged the door as she left leaving a wave of chuckle from Zach.

Ava bumped into a livid Marie as she left the elevator. She chuckled to herself knowing that Marie had just been dumped by Zach. Some women never learn they all thought they could change him for them. She found her boss in a good mood one would think he enjoyed breaking hearts.
