Chapter 1

“I’m going to start my new job Monday” Ava Benson told her best friend and roommate Khloe Michaels as they stood in the coffee shop near the counter waiting for their orders.

Khloe was on her way to work and Ava  had walked with her to the nearest coffee shop for breakfast.

“That’s amazing, does your father know?”Khloe asked.

“You know I can’t hide anything from him.And before you ask he approved which was shocking .” Ava replied rolling her eyes.

”Really ,that doesn’t sound like him.”khloe said with a slight frown.

“Yeah well he said he understood my need for independence, though it will come with a price.” Ava said with another roll of her eyes.

“ Now that’s the daddy dearest I know.What’s the condition of his approval? "

“He didn’t say but I know he will tell me when I’m cornered "

“I hope its not something crazy cause your old man can be a bit loony sometimes “ Khloe said.

“Trust me I…….oompf. “Ava was cut off when someone bumped into her shoulder  making her drop her purse and its contents to scatter on the floor.

“Hey watch where you are going” a male voice rudely spoke.

Ava turned and saw three  guys in suits.One had sandy blonde hair and brown eyes, the other one had brown curly hair and blue eyes.The last guy was closer to her had black hair and stormy grey eyes he was the hottest of the three  was the one who bumped into her.And judging by the angry expression on his face he blamed her.

“I was standing, it's you who should watch where you are going " Ava replied calmly it was to early to get riled up.

“Do you know who you are talking to?Listen here you prick apologize or I will make your life miserable. " the man gritted out.

“ You are the one who should apologize and while at it pick up my stuff you egotistical jerk.” Ava countered.

“Why you little…..” he started.

“Oh shut up and pick my things” Ava cut him off.

The man gave her an icy glare and started to turn away.Ava quickly stepped to him and grabbed his ear painfully. She used her nails to press down knowing that if he tried to move he would bleed.

“Oh no you don’t you are not gonna leave until you pick those up and learn some manners”

“Oww let go you crazy b***h before I have you arrested”

“You can call the cops after you are done picking my bag.”Ava replied pulling the ear harder. The man had no choice but to bend down with him being six foot two and her about five foot six.

Everyone was now paying attention to them in amusement some had their phones out taking videos.Ava put her other arm around his neck and dragged his down until he was bent over.

“Now pick my s**t up”she growled.

The guy wanting to get over and done with everything just did as he was told and tossed her bag to her.She then released him and dusted off her bag.

“Good boy now apologize. "Ava said with a glare and her hands on her hips.

“No way in hell you stupid….”he was cut off when Ava grabbed his already burning ear again.

“Ah ah ah say it." The stubborn man huffed and crossed his arms in defiance “SAY SORRY YOU SPOILED BRAT.”Ava growled again yanking the ear harder.

“Sorry” he grumbled.

“No say it like you mean it before I rip your ear off.”she said yanking on the ear again.

“Oww ok ok I’m sorry”he said with a sigh.

Ava let him go and gave him a bright smile"No worries , accidents happen all the time.”

The other two guys who had been watching amused by the show suddenly burst into fits of laughter.

“That was epic." blondie said as he patted his sour faced friend's back who just shrug him off and stomped out of the café.

“I’m so gonna post this on YouTube"

someone shouted and some high five.

Ava turned back to Khloe who was quiet the whole time amusement clear on her face

“Well that went well.You should be a high school teacher or something" Khloe said with a smile.

“No thanks the kids won’t last a day in class with me.Plus I might be charged with assault. " Ava replied with a snort.

“You really are your father’s daughter when you get into that reprimanding zone”

“Very funny  ,anyway  see you after work" Ava replied as they exited the shop and they went their separate ways.Khloe to work and Ava to their apartment.

Zachary Lockhart stomped out of the coffee shop in an angry fit.He had never been as humiliated as he was in his life.Anyone who had ever tried had their lives destroyed. Everyone knew to stay clear of him because his wrath was not something people wanted to face.And he was gonna make sure that stupid b***h would get it.

He was shocked that the lady did not know him after all he was one of the most eligible bachelors in the city. He was top five of the wealthiest , that and his looks made him a lady magnet. He was not ashamed to say he used that to his fullest advantage. What can he say he enjoyed the pleasures the ladies offered at him. Even though they labeled him a player they kept throwing themselves at him.

His two idiotic best friends Jake Stones and Dean Blackstone were laughing their asses of in his expense and it was making him angrier he felt like he was gonna explode.

“ I can’t wait to get home and tell Kat about this.She is going to be in stitches “ Dean said as they got into the car.

“That was hilarious dude she was like a kindergarten teacher scolding a five year old.” Jake said after he got over his laughing fit.But when he looks at his fuming friend whose ear was bright red he fell over again.

“Would you get in the car I have a company to run”Zach yelled to Jake who was bent over.

“Zach please let us have this moment it’s a once in a lifetime thing.” Dean said then burst out laughing too as the car started.

“ We are here sir” Jeff his driver called out from the driver’s seat.

“Drive these idiots to their destinations will call you if I need you before lunch.”Zach said dismissively as he walked into his building.

“Yes sir”

“Bye Zach be sure to ice that ear don’t want it to fall off.” Dean called from the car which sparked hysterical fit of laughter from  him and Jake.

Zach just flipped them off and walked into the building .He took his private elevator to his floor and walked into his office. The temporary assistant was already there and she was clearly shaking in fear.

“Goodmorning sir.”when she got no reply she continued “ You have a ten o’clock meeting with the marketing team and then lunch at 12:30 with….”l

“Where is my coffee?” Zach interrupted her.

“Im so sorry sir I forgot let me just run…,,,,”

“Don’t bother you are fired”he sneered.

“What? “she asked shocked .

“You heard me, now get out”

The girl scurried out as fast as her legs could carry her too scared  to stop until she was out of the office.

Zach sighed trying to calm himself down they sat down to start  work.

At the apartment Ava went about cleaning and doing laundry. Everything was a mess in the two bedroom home because she was busy with job hunting and  now she got the job she can relax.

Her phone rang and she ran to answer without checking who it was. “Hello”

"Hello Ava." a deep familiar voice replied through the speaker.

“Oh hey Steven "Steven Anderson was Ava’s boyfriend of one year they met in her last year of college and he was working for her father.

“So a little birdy told me you got a job as a PA at some company. I didn’t think you were serious about that independence crap.” Steven said going straight to the point.

Ava groaned in annoyance.“I guess its all over the office already ,that was fast. And yes I was serious I wanna do this.” They did not have the same views when it came to a lot of things especially about her decision to work.

“Fine whatever I wanted to ask if we could do dinner this weekend.” he said dismissing their discussion.

“ I’m sorry I can’t Saturday I’m going shopping with Khloe to get ready for work.Sunday I have dinner with my parents then an early night cause of work the next day.”

“when are you going to have time for me then.” He asked already getting agitated.

“ I’m sorry Steven will make a plan when I get in tune with work”

“You already putting this work before me.That’s why I think you should just stay at home when we get married. "

“Now that’s not fair I didn’t work hard and go to college to be a housewife. Not yet anyway I will get bored out of my mind” they always argued about this and it was seriously starting to make her rethink their relationship.

“You know what when you finally have time for me tell me because it seems as if I’m the only one making an effort here.”

“That is not true and you know it.These past few months I have been the one going out of my way for you but you were always busy. Have you forgotten the many times you stood me up or the countless missed calls and the messages you didn’t reply back for no apparent reason.” Ava was now shouting her temper pricked.

“Calm down Ava .Call me when you are not busy and will make a plan then.” Steven said sweeping the issue under the carpet as usual.

“Fine then” Ava replied taking a deep breath to calm herself down. “By the way…….” She cut herself off and gasped when she heard the dial tone. He had hung up on her, no goodbye or anything.What a jerk.

Ava just scoffed , dismissed him from her mind and went back to cleaning.
