Rainy January
Sophie walked into the shop, looking at the ground. She hoped to get in and out without being seen as she had the worst hangover. It was January 2nd, and she still felt rough from the New years Eve party she had attended with her stepsister. "Hey you," she heard a familiar voice call. Oh no, it couldn't be Jack? "Hi," Sophie replied, feeling her cheeks turn pink. "How are you, stranger?" Although Jack was a huge no-go,there was still something she found incredibly sexy about him. In fact, everything about him drove her wild, but he was the father to her stepsisters' children. They had broken up around 5 months ago after men in balaclavas had broken into their home and took his ex-wife Rose captive. Jack owned a nightclub but also had several side businesses, none of which were legal. Although they had security, these men had managed to bypass the security system, and their security guards and Rose had genuinely thought that night were the end for her. She knew the minute they managed to get her to safety, she had to get out for the children's sake. "Hellooo, you okay?" Jack's voice snapped her back to reality. "Erm, yeah, sorry, I didn't sleep very well. Anyway, I better get home. Early start tomorrow. " She hoped he would let her leave it at that, but Jack wanted answers. "So where is that sl*t of a sister of yours these days?" They were currently going through court proceedings as he wanted access. Sophie felt extremely uncomfortable and went to walk away, but Jack grabbed the back of her jacket. A hot flush consumed her whole body, and her imagination wandered. 'I wish he were pinning me against that wall. Omg, what the f**k is wrong with me? This man almost had my sister murdered and jeopardised my niece & and nephews' safety, and I'm thinking about f***ing him' She looked back at him guiltily as if he could read her thoughts and they way he were looking at her like he wanted her there and then she thought maybe he could. Jack let go of Sophie pushing her forward, "Tell her this ends one of 2 ways. She either gives me shared custody, or I delete her and bring them up. She knows the power I have." He walked away, and Sophie went back to her shopping, she couldn't go home without it as she would have to explain to her parents and sister why she had nothing and she didn't want to scare them especially Rose. Damien would probably be there now. Sophie had been dating Damien for around 6 months, and he was the first man who had ever treated her with respect. He was someone she could see a future with, the whole fairytale wedding, nice house, and children. She walked back to the car after paying, thinking of how he would propose and set off home. Jack was on the phone watching Sophie's every move. This was the chance he'd been waiting for, but she knew his car, so he had one of his club security waiting down the road to see where she went. Jack would do whatever it took to see his babies again. He felt guilty for all that had taken place that night, but he would never purposely put them in any danger. Sophie picked the bags up and went to walk inside. All the lights were off, which were strange. Her parents would be asleep at this time, but Rose would be in her room, settling the kids, and Damien would be watching TV with a beer if he were staying over, she couldn't wait to see him! He was her safe place. Her mind then wandered back to how hot Jack had looked tonight, and again, she felt guilty, but in all honesty, she had always had a soft spot for him and there were no doubt in her mind had her sister not met him first they would've f***ed by now. She could imagine how aggressive he would be in a passionate way. She snapped herself back to reality as she got to the front door. After fumbling for her keys, she opened the door and heard hushed whispers and a door close. Probably one of her parents using the bathroom. After putting the shopping away, she headed to the bedroom. She knew Damien were here as his car was parked down the road, she were ready to melt into his warmth and relax. Back at the velvet underground, James had arrived back and gone straight to the back room to see what kane his security guard had been able to find out. He paced the room, waiting for his return. He knew if Rose had the chance to flee, he might never see any of them again. "Hey, how was your day?" Damien looked as handsome as ever, but Sophie felt some weird vibe, something were different. She had always had some sort of sixth sense and could read any room. "Good, yours? I missed you!" She watched to see how he would react. "Come here then and give me a hug. Is everything okay?" She didn't want to come across as weird, so went and snuggled into him on the sofa. He put a movie on, and within seconds, she was fast asleep. Sophie woke the next morning to the sound of the shower running. She looked at her watch, wondering how long she had before he got out. 6:37 am, probably about 8 mins. She grabbed his phone from the bedside cabinet, praying he hadn't added a clock. She swiped n thanking her lucky stars she checked all his social dms, finding nothing. She was about to put the phone back but quickly went to his calls, there were one number he had called a lot the past 3 weeks that had no contact saved, she pressed messages and what she saw were like a knife through her heart, the notification had been silenced but a message had been sent last night at 12.05am 'That were too close, Damien. I can't carry on this way. You have to make a choice. I don't want to share you.' Composing herself, she grabbed a pen from her bag and jotted the number down and stuffed it into her bag, closed messages, and returned the phone before pretending to be asleep. She couldn't face Damien right now. She needed time to decide what to do next. The number looked familiar, and today, she would make it her mission to find out who it belonged to.
