The Last Pageant

(Northern Continental Region) It is the month of November as the citizens of Nuuk prepare for winter. The winter period shows up by December to February, The Northerners hates this period with so much passion, as they would always say"The bad season is here". Just as a pandemic disease is rejected by all, this is how the winter period is so much hated by the Northerners, it brought a strife between the Northerners and the Southerners *** *** *** *** *** *** Summer period in Nuuk A very hot afternoon in Nuuk can be described as a noisy busy market place not excluding places that are not markets. As everyone could be seen on streets doing one business or the other including young and old, young ladies could be seen hawking their bucket of nono, little children hawking water with the bowl placed on their heads. Some young guys could be seen rearing animals while some could be seen with either baskets,wooden box, sewing machine and even small scissors silver in color, they're either sewing shoes, sewing clothes, cleaning people nails, picking irons, e.t.c. The women could be seen in small shops plaiting hairs while the men could be seen selling farm produce and some by the roadside with goods like torches, bangles, earrings, rings, wrist watches and others arranged on a table which is placed on barrows. The busy day continues smoothly and keep getting busy due to the neighborhood communities who comes to the market to get farm produce for a cheaper rate. Everything is going smoothly and suddenly rain started, this was about 1pm as everyone is shocked and surprised "Ah! its not yet winter. This is so strange (many of us were wondering) or maybe its just drizzling" we concluded and continued with our respective business. But then it became worse as the rain continues falling and suddenly became a heavy downpour, everyone starts to close their shops and locate their houses, the rain kept pouring down like hell was let loose. Different things were happening during the rain fall, many of the people dies, some gets injured, amongst them was: ************* Ali's Mum: Ali leave there (shouts) Ali: Mum let me quickly pack the groundnuts Ali's Mum: No leave it and run over here Ali: Am almost done mum Ali's Mum: Aliiiiiiiiiiii!!!!!! (minutes later) (Ali is with his mum) Ali: You see mum am done, we'll sun this groundnuts when the rain stops so we can have something to sell Ali's Mum: Its fine, let's go (she carries Ali with her two hands like a baby, she pours the groundnut into a sack and she holds it in her left hand) (They find their way home) ************* The situation is now worse as wind blew more and more, storm arose from Kangia River and dig dipper into Nuuk. As the wind blew up, poles began to fall, roofs pulled out, shops began to float, the water keeps increasing. The whole community is in disorder as the waters has reached window level, it is beginning to look like the days of Noah when water flooded the earth, I wondered "is this the end of the world or what but Allah has promised not to send flood again" The rage continues as people starts to drown, little children are being carried away by the flood, cries of mothers fill the atmosphere, everything is turning upside down as it is beginning to look like there is no chance of survival. ************* (Ali and his mum are still trying to find their way home still in the same position) Ali: (shouts & points upward) mum watch out Ali's Mum: (Looks up) what is it Suddenly a pole which is halfway broken falls down and hits Ali horizontally causing his stomach and head to burst open. Ali's mum shouts and cries wildly looking at her son's blood spill from his broken head massively, she kept shouting and crying as she watched her son die in her hands, at this point she could not carry him any longer as parts of his body are falling off her hands, the pole had divided them. She watch her son body parts go down the water, the legs and parts of head keep rushing down with the water. This woman is pained as she feels like the world has come to an end, she keeps shouting at the top of her voice and keeps crying, she tore her clothes as she shouted more and more but there was none to help, at this point her son's full body has run down the rushing water. The woman is in a mad state now. She stares at the water and cries, now she is not bothered about her life or finding somewhere to hide, she keeps wishing death for herself as she continues an unending cry. ************* Its 10 hours gone as the thunderous rain is gradually coming to an end. The cloud clears gradually, the storm has stopped by now, the water level is reducing as the atmosphere keeps getting brighter. The rain has finally stopped, the water has soaked down the earth while some has gushed down to Kangia river. Now the city is in disorder, scattered houses, destroyed properties and even dead bodies are seen here and there. Taking a walk round the city is nothing to say about as the only sound that could be heard was that of people crying, it filled the city so much like it was a carnival. It was later recorded that 85% of the people in Nuuk lost their lives, this is an incident that cannot be forgotten in a hurry, some turned motherless, fatherless, childless and even orphans. Nuuk is nothing to talk about as the people suffered in famine, the rain had flooded everything they had including crops and animals, their source of livelihood was gone, no doubt the people who survived the rain are suffering. The people of Nuuk did not stop to wonder, It threw everyone into imbalance as everyone keeps pondering on what could be the cause of the strange rain. Everyone is scared as it might happen again even in the next minute. Nevertheless, they try to start building up their houses. It is the next month and the weather has gone back to normal, everyone tries to pave their way through survival. The adult youth in Nuuk holds a meeting and decides to find out the cause of the strange rain, they conclude that it was unusual and has never happened before, to crown it all it was not yet winter, some adds that even at the peak of winter, rain has never fell that much not even up to a quarter of that one, they also fear that it may happen again if they don't take heed or the necessary action. Above all they concluded to go any extent to find out the cause and also to avert it. The team is led by Nalima (Ali's Mum),she is in her late Twenties as Ali was her only son, she is the one who gathered the youths and instills braveness in them telling them that it is not natural/ordinary. They made her the group leader. Its One month and two weeks gone as the people of Nuuk awaits results from the team. The team did go for their investigation of the heavy rain fall, they've got insights on it and are ready to keep on until they get to the root. Now they're coming back to Nuuk to tell the people their findings, looking at thief faces one could say that all is not well. The people of Nuuk can be seen gathering in a compound, small groups of people gather at different points engaging in conversations as they await Nalima and her team. "Yeaaaaa!!! They're back!" Screamed one of them, everyone turns to their direction as they watch the team walk in with Nalima at their front, they jubilates and rain praises and prayers on them, after a while they settle down to hear what the team has for them. Looking into Nalima eyes, one could see that its filled with pain, anger and quest for revenge. After clearing her throat several times she finally said "One of us"
