"How did you get past my guards?"
The question should’ve been laced with fear. Instead, it was angry. Furious. And it made me laugh.
That only enraged him more.
Without another word, he pressed four more cigarette burns into my chest. I gritted my teeth through each one, refusing to give him the satisfaction of a scream. The longer it went on, the deeper the burns seemed to sink until it felt like the cherry of the cigarette had burrowed an inch into my flesh.
I was starting to go numb to the scent of burning skin. If that was even possible.
"Do you know what I have planned for you?" he asked, circling me like a predator stalking weakened prey. "No? Let me enlighten you."
His voice was almost cheerful.
