“f**k! What is his plan?” Ravelyn snarled through the phone. Something shattered in the background.
“He wants to… mark her. Mate her,” I said, the words sticking in my throat. It felt wrong just saying them aloud.
“No,” he snapped. “There has to be more to it. He’s had his eye on her since she was a child. Our father never let him touch her, no matter how badly he tormented her. That was the one line Jared never crossed. So why now? Why the sudden obsession with mating her?”
I exhaled, frustrated. “I don’t know, Alpha Ravelyn.” I wished I had answers. Hell, I wished I had anything other than this gnawing helplessness. But until the warriors found the building, we were stuck waiting.
