PROLOGUE
JANE ADAMS
I hear my mom's voice calling me, I didn't set an alarm to wake up, I wake up abruptly rubbing my eyes. Today is my new day at my new school, I'm in my senior year in high school. I don't know how my mom managed to get me to a new school in the second term of the year but here I am, going to a new high school. I just moved to Soho, Manhattan, I stayed in Seattle before, I don't have any friends this side. I get off the bed and make it then head to the bathroom and do my morning routine, I come back and get ready to go. I decide to dress simply, I put on grey sweatpants with a white boob cube crop top then Nike Air sneakers. I let my hair loose, apply my make up. I head to the kitchen, have my breakfast then take my lunchbox and go.
I drive to school, the drive to my new school is about 45 minutes from my house, I'm going to Dominican Academy. I get there and make my way to the principal's office, he gives me my timetable then tells me the Dos and donts of this school. I leave the office and make my way to English class, it is so full.
Is the whole school in here?
I ask myself as I make my way in, I am so scared.
"You must be Miss Adams, I'm Mr Westerbrooks," a yum guy in his late 20s says shaking my hand, he's light skinned, black eyes, dreadlocks tied in a ponytail, he's tall, pink lips. He's so yummy. "I'm the class teacher," his voice brings me back to my senses.
"Nice to meet you, sir," I say.
"Which school did you attend before?" He asks.
"Rainier Beach High, sir," I say.
"Seattle right?" A girl with black curled hair asks smiling at me, she's beautiful.
"Yes," I say smiling back.
"Take a seat, Miss Adams," Mr Westerbrooks says, I spot a space at the back and make my way there, the class carries on, the bell rings, my next class is Math. I gather my stuff.
"Hi!" The girl says to me, she's smiling like there's no forever. "What's your next class?" She asks still smiling.
"Math," I say looking at her. "I'm Jane by the way," I add.
"Erika Samuels," she says. "Come on, we'll go together to the Math Class," she says taking my hand, she's friendly. She's a bit chubby but in a good way, she has big bubble eyes like mine, her hair is tied in a ponytail. I walk with her to the Math class. We make it there and sit together, she has a big mouth, she can talk for ages, I like her already.
"Who's the teacher for Math?" I ask.
"Miss October, she's such a darling. Mr Westerbrooks can be a snob sometimes, he's cute though, I wouldn't mind having him inside me," she says.
At least you met your match, b***h, difference is that you're 18 and still a virgin, she's probably more experienced than you.
My inner voice says, the Math teacher comes in, I assume that's Miss October, she's my mom's age if I'm not mistaken, late 30s. The class starts and it's just a catch up on what they did the previous day. I don't really like Math but I have to do it, my mom wants me to be a doctor like her. The bell rings, we leave the class then go to the cafeteria, Erika is talking nonstop, we sit there eating our lunch.
"And there comes the god of Dominican Academy," Says Erika fixing herself.
"What?" I ask, then I hear noise coming from outside, I turn and see basketball players. "Oh!" I say.
"Do you know who he is? He's the most hottest guy in our school, his name is Luke Williams, every girl is crazy about him. He's had almost every girl here and outside our school. The moron didn't even attend English and Math today," she says.
"Oh! The popular type," I say.
"Yep, his father owns a big advertising company in New York," she says.
"What's his name again?" I ask.
"Luke Williams," she says.
"Luke Williams," I say taking a bite of the sandwich my mom made me, I love her sandwiches, they're so yummy. We hang out then the bell rings, we go back to class, my next class is Spanish, Erika shows me then goes to her class. The day carries on, after class I make my to the school hall and find the other cheerleaders there. I put my stuff down, a girl approached me.
"Hi! I'm Alexis, captain, and you must be..."
"Jane, hi!" I say, she hugs me, she's so beautiful, the Kylie Jenner type. She introduces me to everybody, they take me through the routine then practice continues.
I go back home and find my mom all cosy with a man in his early 40s.
What the f**k?
I stand there watching them.
"Hi guys!" I say, they gasp looking at me.
"Honey! I didn't see you there," my mom says fixing herself. "This is Roger," she adds.
"Roger! Hi Roger! I'm Jane, her daughter," I say sitting in between them. "So Roger, what business do you have with my mom?" I ask.
"Jane, don't you have a homework to do?" My mom asks.
"No, I don't, mommy," I say, I see Roger laughing.
"I'll make something to eat," she says.
"I'll have your yummy sandwiches with hot chocolate on the side and whipped cream on top," I say, my mom goes to the kitchen and I'm left with Roger. "So Roger, how long have you and my mom been together?" I ask.
"Two years," he says. Two years?! My mom is a hoe, two years dating this guy and I know nothing about it. What happened to no secrets?
"Two years? Wow! Mommy, you never told me you had a boyfriend, a hot one at that. You've been seeing him for two years and you never told me. You're such a hoe," I say.
