LUKE
It's Monday, I have basketball practice after school. I'm looking forward to going to school today because I want to see Jane, she is the definition of perfect, her hair smells like cinnamon, I love the way she smells, her smile just brightsns up the room, her green eyes are intoxicating, her lips are tempting, she's amazing, she's wonderful. Damn! She's awesome. I can't stop thinking about her and what happened Saturday night. I freshen up and head downstairs to have breakfast.
"Hey fam!" I greet Adrian, my little brother and Monica our maid, she's more like our mother because she basically raised us. My mom died when I was 17 years, my dad is a businessman, he hardly has time for us, when our mother was alive, she was just like him. They were both busy with their lives and their careers, businesses, they never had time to spend with us, Monica was always there through thick and thin. She attended our school meetings, everything I know, I know because she's always been by my side. I love her. She has her own family, she's old enough to be my grandmother but she looks younger than her age.
"Good morning, my boy," she greets back as I kiss her cheek and sit down and start digging in.
"Your lunchboxes are ready and your pocket money," she continues.
"You're the best, Monny," Adrian says looking excited as ever. I basically raised him with Monica and the love I have for my brother is unconditional, he is so innocent and sweet and can't live without me.
"Did your homework, boy?" I ask Adrian.
"Yes but there's this one question I couldn't understand in my Math homework. Can you please help me?"
"First eat up and I'll help you, we still have an hour before we leave," I tell him.
"Okay."
"Where's dad?" I ask
"He didn't come home last night," Adrian says.
"That's to be expected, he always does this. I mean it was the weekend and he never even thought of spending time with his family and forget about work for at least thirty minutes," I say.
"Don't be like that, sweetheart," Monica says hoping to stop me.
"It's true, we're not different from orphans, only difference is that we have you otherwise who knows what would've happened in your absence."
"You don't mean that," she mutters.
"I do, I mean every word."
I get to my Math class and I find Louis on our usual place, the corner, he's with Marco and Apollo, our friends. I make my way to them.
"Hey guys!"
"Sure bro!" they all say that in unison as I sit down.
Erika and Jane come in talking and laughing. She looks beautiful, she's wearing a tee dress with sandals, her hair is tied in a neat bun, she has makeup on perfectly and her eyeliner is perfectly drawn, she has a nude lipstick on. So she likes it nude, okay.
"The things I'd do to her, bro," Marco says smirking looking at Jane and that smirk is enough to make me want to murder him right now. Jane's eyes meet mine and she quickly looks away blushing, her cheeks turning red instantly, I wet my lip. Damn! What is it about her? She's definitely not my type but she's got me in the palm of her hand directing my every move.
"Okay, class today, I have your pop quiz marks," says Miss October coming in with a pile of papers.
"Miss Adams, please pass the papers to their owners," she continues handing the papers to Jane who's looking at her like she can't believe she just got appointed to go around the class. "This will help you get to know your classmates by their names," she says.
Jane looks at Erika who's busy trying to hold her laugh as much as she can.
"I don't have all day, honey, get your ass up," Miss October rasps. Jane stands up and hand the papers out and mine is the last one. She sighs before she makes her way to me.
"Thank you," I say touching her fingers as I take my paper. She quickly turns and walks away as fast as she can. So she's shy.
JANE
After school, I make my way to the school hall for cheerleading but I find no one there. Alexis comes towards me looking stunning as usual. She's wearing a leg string dress with sneakers and her black hair is loose.
"Hey girl! What are you doing here?"
"I thought we were rehearsing today," I say.
"Oh no! I'm sorry, I forgot to tell you, we don't rehearse on Mondays. But we can go watch basketball practice for the time being," she says.
Luke is playing basketball, he's there obviously, I can't go there especially after what happened Saturday night at his father's club, no ways, I can't.
"Umm... it's okay, I think I'll head home."
"Nonsense, come on, Erika is there too. Come on," she says gripping my arm with her and leads the way to the field. I can't face Luke right now, I just want to go home and be bored alone there.
"Hey! You came," Erika says making a space for me next to her. I sit next to her and watch the game or practice or whatever it is. I see Luke with his friend, I don't know his name but he's always with him, he must be his best friend. They begin their thing.
"Your guy is hot, girl," Erika says whispering, I blush looking away. I told Erika about what happened with Luke and I. "But he's an ass though," she continues.
"He's not my guy, Rika," I say hoping she'll drop the topic.
"Just saying," she mutters.
I don't entertain the conversation anymore, I act like I'm not paying attention.
The practice ends and we all go our separate ways, Erika will be going home with her boyfriend, Michael.
"I'll see you tomorrow," she says.
"Yeah."
We hug it out and I watch her walk away, I turn and bump into a hard chest, forcing me to back up a bit.
"Sorry about that, beautiful."
Luke.
"I didn't mean to scare you," he adds.
"It's okay," I say not looking at him and pass him.
"So we're in this situation now? You're avoiding me," he mutters.
Damn right, I'm avoiding you, I can't be in the same place as you. What happened Saturday night was a mistake.
I didn't say that obviously.
Who you're trying to fool, doll face? Him or yourself?
My inner voice says to me and I quickly brush it away.
"I'm not avoiding you, I'm just rushing home."
"You're sure about that?" He asks.
"Yep, yes I am, I am going home, it's getting late," I lie.
"Okay, you've been ignoring me the whole day and now that I catch you alone, you're still find an excuse to avoid me. Like it or not, Jane, Saturday night happened and sooner or later we're going to have to talk about it," he says.
"We have nothing to talk about, Luke. What happened that night was a mistake, it shouldn't have happened."
You're a complete liar right now. You know you enjoyed every bit of it. You couldn't even stop calling his name. It was no mistake, honey.
"Okay, maybe it was a mistake on your side but it was a mistake you enjoyed, we both enjoyed," he says. He's not making this easy for me.
"Come on, Jane, let's start over and maybe we can..."
"I think it's better if we keep our distance," I say not really meaning it. God knows how much I want him to kiss me and hold me, I can still feel his touch, the way he was worshipping me, I couldn't get enough. He made me feel like I was the only girl to ever exist in this world and I loved every bit of it. He made feel worthy and appreciated.
"Distance? Are you sure about that?" He asks.
"I-" I stutter not sure of what I want to say. I don't want distance but at the same time I don't know this guy, he's just a random stranger I met a few days ago in the school hall. He's a cool guy, I can see that but the whole school knows him as a player, he's the god of Dominican High and the girls are crazy about him. Erika on the other side can't stop rambling about what an ass Luke Williams is, that he has girlfriends all over our school and outside our school.
"Jane look..." I cut him short.
"Stop, you don't know me, I don't know you, let's keep our distance, okay. You stay out of my way and I'll stay out of yours," I say walking away and stop halfway.
"And Saturday night never happened, now we're good," I continue to walk away, I want him to run after me and kiss the daylights out of me but he doesn't. Who am I kidding? Why would he run after me after I've just told him off? I am so crazy and lame. I unlock my car and look back at him, he's still standing there looking at me.
"See you around, Adams," he says with a smirk on his face. He's gorgeous and it gets worse by the day. God, Your works are amazing. You did a great job with Luke, he has it all, looks, money, popularity, body and everything, a little acne wouldn't hurt him. I enter my car and drive home.
