Leonard Griffith's Point of View
Whenever I close my eyes, there's a vague picture of a girl showing up. I don't know if she's just part of my dream or part of my lost memory. All I know was, my heart feels like being stabbed by a thousand needles whenever I see her. Just... Who are you?
“Wanna play hide and seek?” - I asked.
“Yes!” She said with a big smile on her face.
“Then I'll be the seeker and you're the hider.” I said and she nodded in response. I walked towards the tree, closed my eyes and started counting.
“and... 100” I finished counting, I opened my eyes and shouted “Here I come!” I said, taunting her. I was looking for her in the park but couldn't find her. I scratched my head thinking where she could possibly hide, when I heard something in the bush. I was about to check it out when I heard someone screaming.
“Aaaahhhh!!”
I looked in the direction where the scream came from. The voice sounds so familiar... I hope it's not her. My heart was beating so fast as I ran in that direction. When I got there, my heart seemed to stop beating and my brain stopped working. I saw her get taken by a white van. The next thing I knew I was running, following the van. I didn't even notice the blinding lights and loud beeping of the car that was about to hit me. The only thing I remember was I got hit and my eyesight started to darken.
“eo...!”
I slowly opened my eyes when I felt someone calling and shaking me.
“Leo!”
I opened my eyes and saw my mom looking at me worriedly.
“Are you okay? She asked worriedly.
“Why wouldn't I? And what are you doing here mom?”
“It's almost 7:00 and you still haven't come down. So I went there and knocked but I heard you screaming so I went inside.” She explained. “What happened? You know that you can always talk to me, right?” she added.
“I-it's nothing... I just had a nightmare. That's all,” I replied.
She looked at me worriedly. She knew that I was lying but chose not to ask anything. Instead she got up, and nodded. “Take a bath and come down to eat breakfast before going to school, OK?”
“Yeah.” I nodded. She was about to leave my room when I called her. “Mom! Wait...” She looked at me. “Do I... Perhaps a childhood friend?” I asked.
“Yes, Lonnie and Horace. Remember?” She answered.
“No. I meant a girl.” I said.
Her eyes widened and her face turned pale, but it immediately went back to normal. “No.” She said, shaking her head. “No, you didn't. Why? Did you dream about your dream girl and got rejected?” She said in a joking manner.
“No, mom!” I said, annoyed. “It's just that... Nevermind.”
“You sure you didn't get rejected?” She asked.
“No. So mom, please get out! I'm naked.” I said in embarrassment.
“What’s wrong with that? I saw you n***d many times when you were still a baby.” She said teasingly.
“But I'm no longer a baby. So can you please spare this handsome son of yours?” I said, annoyed. My face is so red with embarrassment.
“Okay, okay.” She raised her hands up as a sign that she had surrendered. “Come down and eat breakfast before going, okay?” She said. I nodded my head in response.
She finally left my room. I sighed and thought about that girl. “Just who are you?” I sighed once more. I don't even know if she's real. I stood up and went to the bathroom, tossing my thoughts aside.
When I finished taking a bath, I went down to eat breakfast. I was about to enter the dining room when I heard my parents talking. I didn't mean to eavesdrop on their conversation, but something is telling me that I should. So I stayed at where I am and listened to their conversation.
“What should we do? He's having dreams about it.” Mom said, her voice trembling.
“We can't do anything about it. After all, his memories are bound to come back.” Dad said.
“But what if he starts to look for her? What if we lose him? We almost lost him once... I can't afford it if something happens to him again.” Mom said and started crying. Dad was comforting her.
What are they talking about? Is it me? Are my dreams actually my memories? There are lots of questions running around my head. But I know for sure that they won't answer it, so I have to find the answer myself. I entered the dining room and acted as if I know nothing. “Good morning!” I greeted them and frowned “Why are you crying mom?”
“I-it’s nothing, sweetie.” She said and wiped away her tears “Your dad and I are just reminiscing about some good old memories.” She said and smiled. “Do you want some pancakes? Here, I'll give you some.”
“O-kay?” I sat down and stared at them but mom just smiled at me and kept on piling up some food on my plate. While my dad just stared at me, his face looked so serious. I turned my focus on my food and continued eating, not minding the awkwardness of the room.
Heaven's Point of View
“Heaven!”
I turned around to look at who had called me.
“Kelsey!” I ran towards her. “Where have you been? I've been looking all over for you.”
“Uhm... Heaven, I'm here to say goodbye to you.” She bit her lower lip. “I finished my mission here. I can see the light now.”
“Oh... That was nice.” I smiled. “Good for you.”
“You're not mad are you?” She asked.
Of course not.” I shook my head. “I'm happy for you, truly.”
She smiled at me and said, “Thank you, then I'll be going now then.”
“Yeah, good luck on your next journey.” I said as I waved my hand goodbye.
My smile vanished when she disappeared. I'm used to this but it still hurts. This never ending loop of bidding goodbye. I've been wandering around the earth for years, but I still can't find a way to see the light.
*Sigh*
I'm starting to lose hope. I don't even know where to begin. They said try to start with my family but... Who is my family? I can't remember anything except my name.
I walked and walked to god knows where my foot will take me. I stopped at a park, it felt so familiar. I entered the park and saw a big tree. I walked towards the tree and sat down. I closed my eyes and felt the cool breeze softly caressing my skin. I wonder how my life was when I was still alive.
I opened my eyes and saw a guy staring at me. It was strange... Very strange. But it feels like a light bulb lit up in my head. I stood up and walked towards the guy.
“Can you see me?” I asked and waved my hand in front of his face.
“Am I not supposed to?” He asked.
I smiled. I found a way.
