Lena, Jack's wife has been extremely elated upon seeing her niece. It had been years since they last met, and they have only talked once in a while, such as birthdays. She had come to accompany her husband for his trip, and in hope for a little vacation for them afterwards. Meeting Elaine is certainly a pleasant surprise.
For a moment, Lena wanted to invite Elaine to stay at their hotel instead. After all, Jack has booked a condotel, which is practically a hotel in form of an apartment or in other words, there's a lot of space with two rooms. After all they wouldn't want to make troubles for her. But when she knows that Elaine had lived alone, and barely stayed at her apartment herself, she agreed to stay at Elaine's apartment right away. So that night, Elaine returned to prepare her guest room, and the next day, her relatives checked out of their hotel.
"This is one impressive apartment, Elaine," Jack looked around and nodded in approval as they entered the apartment building. From his experiences, he could tell that this apartment is quite exclusive, and the security wouldn't be bad.
But when they walked in to her apartment, they're astounded by her apartment. Through there's only a few primary furniture, everything is arranged neatly with a white theme. It is simple, and at the same time, luxurious.
They gathered on the small bar Elaine has functioned as a dining table, and Elaine served them the food she'd bought from a restaurant nearby. "Sorry, I'll get a dining table later. It has always crossed my mind since I'm rarely home," Elaine told them which they dismissed as fine.
"Well, seeing this place proved how successful you are now. I'm really proud of you honey," Lena smiled tearfully, genuinely delighted. The both of them has two children, and both are boys. That's why Lena had extremely adored Elaine. Lena enthusiastically asked Elaine about her travels and experiences. She didn't ask about the past or her other family but instead she genuinely focused on asking about Elaine, as she wanted to know more about her- like how a mother would treat their missing child.
The day passes from day to night as both woman talked happily, and uncle Jack would only follow along once in a while. He's listening to them peacefully, enjoying their chatters as both their son are not talk active.
At the same time, on the other side of the world, the sun shines brightly still on the sky. In the bustling city, on top of a majestic building stood a man. He shook his partner's hand, and then after they left the meeting room, he returned to his office where he leaned back on his seat.
On the wall hung four screens, one displaying stock movement, one displaying finance news, one on international news, and the other one on local news. He looked at them, turning on the sound on turns one by one as he had them on mute so the room wouldn't be too noisy. However, at the moment, he felt the sound of TV is giving him a headache. He's feeling a bit lallygagged as he'd been running on a packed schedule, and has to follow a tight flight schedule.
When he's about to turn it back off, suddenly the news played out a scandal news on an actress. He didn't really care, but the actress' blonde hair reminded him of Elaine. Derek scoffed on the thought. That's stupid of him to find every blonde as Elaine, and yet every actress/model he now sees reminds him of Elaine since she's the only one he'd met and remembered her face.
He wonders if she actually didn't know who he is both times, or just pretended not to know. There's always possibilities that she's playing hard to get, but though he wanted to think that way, his brain prevented him to as it, as per se, always thought rationally. And with that rationality, he wouldn't judge her before he know her, just as she had yelled to him the other day.
Derek scoffed again. How dare she yell at him? Other girls always looked at him with their big -acting cute- eyes, pouted lips, and honey coated words, trying to coax him into liking them, while Elaine herself had glared at him, retorted back with no second thought, and on their next meeting, it was almost like he has seen a different version of herself, the one that intrigued him. From the smiling, confident public figure, the girl he had met at the club looked mysterious,
enticing, and that's the excuse he'd used to why he allowed himself to think of her.
As if on cue, the ads starting to play and there stood Elaine, walking, posing, dragging her dress on the sand, letting the waves crash to her feet. He stared at the ads, from start to finish, and the ads ended at a scene where Elaine smiled beautifully. Though her eyes were not lifeless, and she looked genuine, Derek had spent most of his life judging people, and he could tell how that isn't her real smile.
Started to get annoyed, Derek pressed the intercom, and ordered his secretary to get someone. Derek focused on his work for a moment as then the door opened, and a man stood in front of him, with eye glasses adorning his face.
Derek raised his head, about to open his mouth bu then he realizes that he doesn't even know her name. He frowned for a moment.
"Find whatever you could about the girl who accompanied Mr. Ashton to my grandfather's banquet," Derek ordered, then he adds, "Also, dig into the Gregs, and the his female company. They seemed like trouble."
The man nodded, and went on his way immediately.
At that same time, Jack's phone rings. It's late at night, his wife has fallen asleep, and Elaine had returned to her own room. Jack took his phone, and received an attached file to the information he had asked the day before.
