Chapter 16: Something’s Wrong
“Something’s wrong.” Billy’s voice shook. “It’s nearly five o’clock. Mr. Lowe should have been back with Margaret by now.”
Nikoloz tore his attention away from the pigeon scratching around in the dirt beside the car. He had never noticed the rainbow of colors in their feathers. It took a couple of seconds, but he managed to decipher what the boy was saying. “Vikushka just left.”
“He’s been gone for an hour. I have to call for back-up.” Billy reached for the communicator.
Nikoloz felt his heart beat increase. “Nearest office is Atlanta,” he said.
Billy’s eyes teared up. “They could have killed him by the time anybody gets here. What are we supposed to do?”
“Call.” Nikoloz thought hard. Where had Vikushka put his revolver? He struggled with the door handle
