Kennedy!
Kennedy Thorne The sting as the whip comes down for the fourth time is enough to have a scream rip from my throat, but I refuse. I won't give them the satisfaction, not in this life. I was six when the scumbag of an Alpha slaughtered my pack, killing my parents. I am born from Alpha blood but they suppress my wolf, the slave collar around my neck stops me from shifting. The magic burns my neck if my wolf even surfaces, I can’t remember the last time I heard her, my wolf. Today is my nineteenth birthday, thirteen years of abuse and pain. I work from dawn till dusk and if I am lucky I get some scraps of food. The grip in my left hand is failing due to an old fracture that was never treated, the collar prevents my wolf healing from working. That's how I ended up here. At this exact moment I dropped the tray of coffee. The silver from the whip is biting into my skin but because of the slave collar I can’t heal because of this collar. The one holding the whip is Ebeny the Alphas daughter, she is the same age as I am, and torturing me is her favourite game. The one standing next to Ebeny is Alpha heir Blake from the next pack. Blake is as nasty as he is handsome. Ebeny is his current girlfriend, one of many if you listen to the gossip. Then there is Vivian the best friend, all giggles and sweet smiles but really she is as sinister as she is pretty. Her life consists of being Ebony’s lapdog, pathetic really. “Enough!” the Alpha’s voice rings out from behind us. I smirk to myself, she hates being disturbed but would never disobey her daddy. Ebeny drops the whip, before turning to her father. “Daddy, I was just disciplining this scab for smashing all this” she points at the broken crockery I am now kneeling on. “Daddy, is everything in place for my birthday party this weekend?” he just hums before turning to me. Her sweet innocent voice is laughable, the one she uses for her parents and Blake. She is anything but innocent, and we all know it. “Get off the floor girl, you're making a mess. Get back to work” he pokes me with the toe of his designer leather shoes. I hate him, I hate them all and if I get the chance I will make them pay. “Yes Alpha” I say before peeling myself off the floor, using the hem of my top to clean the floor of my own blood. I move to go to my room to change when Vivian trips me and I go crashing to the floor again. My already broken body screaming from the impact, and I grit my teeth as blood runs down my back. They all laugh, I would be embarrassed if it wasn’t an everyday occurrence. By this point I am numb to it. How can a slave have any pride, no shame just a memory that I am storing it all away for that day I will make them all pay. It’s the only thing that keeps me going. I leave the lounge, passing the kitchen Hannah one of the other slaves stops me. I hate the sympathy in her eyes as she hands me some fresh dressings for my back. I smile my thanks and continue to my room, well actually it’s the cellar. I was never allowed a space in the slave quarters. The cellar is damp and dark but I don’t care, I turn on the old lamp I found in the trash. Going to the small stack of rags I call clothes in the corner I find a top and go about my back. I can’t reach it all but I have been through this enough to know how to do as good as I can. I hiss as the cold water touches the open wounds. I use the broken mirror I again found in the trash. Looking over my shoulder I examined Ebony’s handy work; yeap she got me good this time. Fifteen minutes later I am back in the kitchen taking orders from Bell, she is the head slave. Bell is fair but if she finds anyone acting out she can come down on you as good as the Alpha. “Earth to Kennedy,” Bell says, snapping her fingers in front of my face. “What’s up with you Girl?” “Ebony got her again” Hannah says before I can answer. Bell nods, going back to giving everyone their duties for the evening meal, before turning to me. “Kennedy, you are on the dishes” I look up and smile my thanks. She knows Ebony will make my life hell if I am serving so she has done me a favour by allowing me to stay in the kitchen. Hannah gives my hand a squeeze before going to start her work. The night goes slow as always, the slaves gossip as they come and go. The party next weekend has them all living in cuckoo land, dreaming of finding their mates. As if we would be allowed to attend, not that I would want to. I have enough trouble with Ebony and her squad without deliberately stepping into that party. By midnight I am finally finished and ready to pass out, my back is killing me. I get to the cellar door when a hand lands on my shoulder, I jump then turn. Hannah stands her big blue eyes looking at me with that sympathy again, she holds out her hands to me. “I managed to get these” she says in a hushed tone, before looking around to make sure we were alone. I look down at the packet of pain meds she has handed to me. “Where did you get them?” I ask in the same hushed tone. She just shrugs then turns and goes back the way she came. I sit down on my bed, a pile of old blankets that I sleep on and stare at the meds in my hand. For the first time in a long time I allow one tear to slide down my face before I push it away. I wasn’t crying because I felt sorry for myself, I was crying because it’s not often people are kind to me.
