The job no one wanted
The Romano mansion was the kind of place that whispered danger, filled with aura .
High iron gates, bodyguards who never smiled, and windows so dark you couldn’t tell if someone was watching from behind them.
Aria Bennett tightened her grip on her small suitcase. The driver had dropped her at the entrance and left without a word—just a quick glance in the rareview mirror that said “good luck surviving.” Aria looked confused without knowing she was about to meet the most dangerous man yet ~ although she has heard a lot about "THE ROMANO’s “
She swallowed hard.
This was just a job. A caretaker position. Clean the mansion, manage the kitchen, keep things in order.
At least, that was what the agency had told her.
When the doors opened, a man in black escorted her inside. The scent of rich leather, expensive cologne, and power, sort of an aura filled the air. Every step echoed against marble floors until they stopped in front of a tall figure standing by the window.
“Mr. Romano,” the guard announced.
He didn’t turn immediately.
Just a low hum, deep and commanding, as though her presence was an interruption.
When Dante Romano finally turned around, Aria’s breath caught.
Tall, broad-shouldered, brown-skinned with perfectly trimmed hair and a faint shadow of a goatee—he looked like sin dressed in a black suit. His blue eyes flicked over her once, sharp as glass, and then dismissed her.
“So,” he said, his voice calm but cold, “they sent you here?”
Aria blinked, unsure how to respond. “Yes, sir. I was told you needed someone to help with…..”
“I don’t need anyone, but apparently my staffs thinks I do” Dante interrupted abruptly looking at one of the muscular guards.
He turned away again, the tension in his voice like steel. “You’ll clean. You’ll cook. You’ll stay out of my way, the house is big enough let’s not cross path”
Her lips pressed into a thin line. “Stay out of my way” ?
It wasn’t exactly the welcome she expected, but she’d handled worse.
“Yes, Mr. Romano,” she said softly.
He didn’t answer. He just stared out the window again, watching the city lights beyond the mansion walls—like a man who trusted no one, yet owned everything.
She asked -“where can I keep my bags sir ”
Romano whispered silently to his self -“ Dante we are in for a long ride “ he looked at his guards
Swiftly the guard came in no time and took aria to her room where she would stay for the rest of her dream days because she was not ready to stop drooling about how Romano’s mansion looked
And in that silence, something unexplainable stirred in her chest.
Because behind his coldness, she sensed something darker—loneliness, maybe. Or danger disguised as control.
Whatever it was, Aria knew one thing for sure:
This job was nothing like she expected.
And Dante Romano was not a man any woman should get close to.
