Chapter 10

His kiss sent a shiver down my spine, just like it always did. I closed my eyes for a moment, savouring the sensation. His gentle kisses on my neck felt both wonderful and bitter. This was my weakness, and he was well aware of it. Desire took control of my body, leaving my mind completely blank and feeling aroused. However, the intoxication from his soft lips was fleeting, as my inner wolf reminded me of my pain. The pictures of him lustfully burying his head between Zoe's legs, and the way he trusts his sizable male organ inside her while she moans out her pleasure, snapped me back to reality in an instant. I opened my eyes and, forcing a bitter smile, freed myself from his hug. He looked at me, surprised, probably because he had grown accustomed to the success of this attempt. "I'm sorry, but I'm already late," I said. He sighed painfully. "But it's been a few days since we were together." His attempt to play the offended man made me feel nauseous. "Kevin, believe me, I would love to stay home with you all day in bed, but I’m a surgeon, and the patients can't wait." "Well, I hope that at least after the ceremony, you'll give yourself a break." I smiled, stepped closer to him, and lightly kissed his lips. "Of course, I'll take a break. I think we’ll need days to celebrate." My smile remained, and he returned it, but only I knew that while my smile would linger, his would surely fade in just nineteen days. "What time are you coming home today?" he asked, and the familiar frustration quickened my heart since I now understood the real reason behind his question. "Tomorrow evening, I'm afraid. I have a twenty-four-hour shift ahead, but you know I never finish on time." He rolled his eyes. "I know. I hope you haven't forgotten something." I looked at him in confusion. "What?" "We have an appointment for the gown fitting. Remember?" He asked, feigning offence. "I completely forgot about that. I'm sorry; the days pass by so quickly. I promise I'll be there on time." "It's a famous boutique, Erin. I don't want to be late, so to make sure you'll be there with me, I’ll pick you up from the hospital." I laughed. "I won’t forget that," I said as I sipped my coffee. "I don't believe you. So, I will be there," he said, stepping closer to wrap his arms around me. "Even if you're in the middle of an operation, I'll take you out of the hospital on time." I forced a smile. "Okay," I said, breaking free from his hug. I quickly finished my coffee and got ready. He was still sipping his drink when I left. I wanted to rush out of the house without saying goodbye, but he caught up with me at the door and pressed a firm kiss onto my lips. "Have fun," he said. "You too," I replied. After I left the house, I realised he would probably have a lot of fun. Feeling completely broken, my thoughts lingered on the ceremony. I carefully planned every step, and even though I still loved him, I was eager to see his face when I refused him and exposed the video of him cheating on me with a woman absolutely unsuitable for the role of the Luna. However, I didn’t have much time to dwell on that as I quickly reached the hospital. The day was chaotic. Since it was Sunday morning, there were many injured werewolves from last night’s partying and drinking. I encountered Zoe multiple times, and hiding my frustration while staying calm around her was really challenging. I kept reminding myself that one wrong move could ruin my entire plan, so I forced myself to smile at her. Lily appeared soon after, thankfully finding plenty to talk about regarding Zoe, which eased my frustration a little. The day passed quickly, and I found myself in the on-call room again. I was reading the newspaper when the familiar, disliked scent of Zoe’s perfume drifted into the room. "Oh, the shift is finally over! What a day!" she exclaimed. "I guess you’ll get some rest now," a doctor remarked. Zoe's smile widened. "Of course! After a hot bath, I’m going to bed, and I won’t get up until tomorrow," she said, making me feel horrible again. When Kevin and I bought the house, we renovated the bathroom and installed a big hot tub. We used to share many passionate hours there, and I felt sick imagining Zoe in it with my chosen mate. The night was quiet, and I managed to sleep for a few hours, which was great. At least I wouldn't look so worn out at the boutique in my new gown. In the morning, I had a few patients to check on, but there weren’t any urgent or serious operations to perform. Of course, I forgot to check the time, and while passing the reception, the receptionist stopped me. "Erin, a hot guy is waiting for you in your office," she said with a broad smile. I checked my watch. "Is it really that late?" "You should have finished two hours ago," she added, and I rolled my eyes. "Right. I’ll get my things, check on that hot guy in my office, and then I'm out." "See you tomorrow, Erin!" she waved, and I rushed to the changing room. After getting dressed, I went to my locker to grab my belongings. When I checked my phone, I found a message from Kevin reminding me again about our appointment. I shook my head and hurried to my office. That part of the hospital had carpets everywhere, making my footsteps almost silent. I grasped the door handle and pushed the office door open as usual, only to freeze in shock. Kevin was sitting on the leather couch with Zoe. Her bare feet rested in his lap, and he was massaging them. As soon as he noticed me, he let her feet go and stood up. "Erin, finally! Are you ready?" he asked calmly, as if nothing was wrong.
