Chapter 11

I stood there completely frozen, struggling to find the words. It was excruciating to see them together again. Thoughts of revenge filled my mind, preventing me from making a scene. At that moment, Kevin probably realised he owed me an explanation. His expression changed as he searched for the right words, and I wanted to hear them. I knew I shouldn't care, but playing the oblivious woman who watched everything Kevin did hurt my self-esteem far more than it should have. Even though I was planning to end my relationship with Kevin in a way that the entire pack would remember, I couldn't allow them to shame me in front of the people we knew or ruin my revenge by revealing what was happening between them. Kevin sighed as he glanced back at Zoe, showing evident frustration. He expected Zoe to clarify what had occurred in my office while I was away. I always knew he was weak for an Alpha, but I didn't realise he was so weak as a man that he needed his mistress to explain a situation that clearly proved he was cheating on me. Kevin couldn’t stand up for himself, and probably that was why he needed a strong Alpha she-wolf at his side—someone to do the hard work he was incapable of handling. "Erin, while I was coming here, I ran into Zoe in the corridor, and she was complaining about her feet. I just wanted to help her relax. What’s wrong with that?" "Kevin, let me explain, because you missed half the story," Zoe interrupted as she stood up, rolling her eyes, which only fueled my anger. Still, I did my best to remain calm. Seventeen days left; that was all I reminded myself. I should have laughed out loud at the sight of my pathetic partner relying on his pathetic mate to do something he wasn’t capable of. "Erin, we used to be classmates in school, and back then, Kevin was interested in massage techniques. He often said he wanted to be a masseur," she said with a laugh. "He practised on his classmates, including me, and I loved how he could make my muscles feel renewed. I had a chaotic day yesterday; you probably heard about my mother. She fell, and I was the only family member with the skills to help her. I didn’t sleep much last night and rushed back here this morning, so I haven't had time to sit down until now. I just borrowed him for a little while; don’t make a big deal out of it." Zoe’s explanation was as despicable as she was, but again, I didn’t want to argue with Kevin. My chest ached at the thought of why she hadn’t slept much last night. It was likely because she had been lying with Kevin for half the night in my house, in my bed. Her moans and the way she had encouraged Kevin echoed in my mind. The ceremony was underway, and I wanted to wait until everyone could see what horrible people these two were. However, if Zoe's explanation wasn’t enough, Kevin turned to me, appearing braver than before. "Erin, I hope you don’t think I have anything to do with Zoe. For the Moon Goddess’s sake," he said, stepping closer and wrapping his arms around my waist. I wanted to push him away at first, but I gritted my teeth and let him hold me. "Erin, Zoe is just a she-wolf I know from school. Please don’t overthink the situation," Kevin said. I noticed Zoe crossing her arms over her chest, and I couldn’t help but enjoy the frustration on her face while Kevin held me. Clearly, she hated seeing her mate with another woman who was officially his girlfriend. "Erin," she said, rolling her eyes. "I know I’m so attractive that no male wolf could resist me, but I wouldn't steal someone else's boyfriend—especially not yours." She sighed. "However, let me give you some advice: if you want to be the next Luna, you need to manage your jealousy a bit. Kevin will be the Alpha here, and all the she-wolves will be around him, hoping to win him over. You'd better get used to it, Erin." She glanced at Kevin and chuckled. "Zoe, whether I am jealous or not, or how I will act as the future Luna, is none of your business. What are you doing in my office anyway? Don't you have something else to do?" I started to continue, but Kevin stopped me. "Erin, let's end this conversation; it’s pointless. Nothing happened between Zoe and me. If we keep discussing this misunderstanding, we’ll be late." He leaned closer, and I felt goosebumps on my skin as his breath brushed against my ear. "I can’t wait to see you in that beautiful gown you chose." As I glanced at Zoe, I felt a surge of satisfaction. Her face was filled with jealousy. She definitely didn’t want to see Kevin holding me and acting like my devoted partner. "Okay, we can leave now," I said, pulling away from Kevin's embrace. I wanted to take the first step towards the door, but I froze when Zoe spoke again. "Actually, Kevin, we met a long time ago, and I think we have a lot to talk about." Kevin chuckled. "We did meet a long time ago, indeed. I wouldn’t mind catching up with you another time, Zoe, but right now we really need to hurry, or we’ll miss our appointment." "Oh, I heard that you are going to the best boutique in town. I definitely don't want to be the reason you're late," she said. All I wanted was to be free from this place. I was about to take Kevin's hand and pull him out of the office, but I froze again when I heard Zoe's voice. "Actually, we don’t need to set another appointment. I'm free for a while. What if I come along for the fitting? We could chat on the way, and I could be of great use."
