Erin’s POV - The hot stranger
The atmosphere inside was pleasant. The dim lighting allowed me to take in the surroundings, and I was satisfied with the place’s cleanliness. Moreover, it was relatively empty, which made me want to stay.
I took a seat at the bar and waited for the bartender to approach me.
“What can I get for you?” the young werewolf asked, looking no older than the legal drinking age.
“I’d like something strong,” I replied, and he nodded before stepping
away.
He soon returned with a bottle of whiskey.
“Double or single?” he asked.
“Double,” I answered, and he handed me the glass as soon as he finished pouring.
Without hesitation, I lifted the glass to my mouth and gulped it down in one sip.
“Another one, please,” I said. The young man looked surprised, but he took my empty glass and refilled it.
As I began to feel the effects of the first double, I decided to take my time with the second. I wanted to get drunk, but I didn’t want to lose control.
That was the moment I felt someone’s gaze on me. I looked in that direction and saw a man sitting at a table. Our eyes locked, and I had to admit he looked handsome. He had brown eyes and hair, dressed elegantly, though a few buttons on his shirt were unbuttoned, revealing a piece of his muscular chest.
The whiskey flushed my cheeks, which I appreciated—otherwise, I would have blushed from being caught staring at such a handsome werewolf.
I needed to remind myself that I had just experienced the worst betrayal a man could inflict on a woman.
My plan was clear in my mind, and I slipped my hand into my pocket to feel my phone, which held the first piece of evidence I was prepared to use in my confrontation with the two of them at the ceremony.
A smile crept onto my face as I pulled my hand out of my pocket. Unfortunately, out of habit, I glanced at the handsome stranger again, and he might have thought my smile was meant for him.
The bartender returned with my new drink after waving at him, and I wasted no time in downing it, trying to shift my focus away from the stranger. However, from the corner of my eye, I saw him order a drink, and, as if he wanted to mirror me, he downed it in one swift gulp. I couldn’t help but look his way again, and he smiled back at me.
Realising I had been staring longer than appropriate, I quickly looked away, but it seemed my gaze had been enough to encourage him to approach me. It only took him a moment to close the distance, and his cologne was the first to intoxicate me.
“May I join you?” His deep voice nearly made me jump, and I looked back into his warm brown eyes.
Kevin came to mind, along with my plan to avoid making new friendships for a while, so I was momentarily speechless.
“Yes,” I replied, although I wasn’t entirely sure why I agreed. I was technically still in a relationship, and I knew that once I got through this, I wouldn’t want anything to do with another one for a while.
“What are you drinking?” he asked.
“Whiskey,” I answered, and he turned to the bartender.
“Two doubles, please,” he ordered, and the bartender nodded before serving us more drinks.
“Ronald,” he said, clinking his glass against mine.
“Erin,” I introduced myself.
“Nice to meet you, Erin,” he smiled before we both emptied our glasses.
“How come a gorgeous she-wolf like you is sitting here alone, drinking?” he asked, and I felt a twinge of embarrassment.
I sighed, contemplating whether I should tell him to leave, but for some reason, his company felt good.
“I just had a long day.”
“Work?” he inquired.
"Many things," I smiled as I glanced at the glass in my hand and drank its contents. I didn't want to send him away or reveal the reason for my drinking, so I decided to take the lead in the conversation. We ended up speaking at the same time.
He smiled and motioned for me to ask him first. "What about you? Why are you here?"
He sighed. "I had a long day too."
I chuckled. "So, we're both here to unwind," and he nodded. "What do you do?"
"I am a surgeon," I replied, which surprised him.
"So, if I were to collapse, you could save me."
I smiled and shook my head. "Not when I’m drunk. But I might try."
He laughed and thanked the bartender for the new drinks.
"What about you?" I asked, holding my glass.
"I lead a pack."
I feigned surprise. "Really? Are you an Alpha then?"
He nodded. "Yes, I am an Alpha." I had suspected as much; his physique indicated he wasn’t a weak werewolf. However, each time I tried to ask about his pack, he redirected the conversation back to me, inquiring more about my job. I shared so many things, but I lost track of how many drinks we had. As I got drunker, the urge to talk about Kevin tugged at me, but I held back.
Eventually, the alcohol made it hard to move. I felt dizzy, but it also lifted my mood. I didn’t notice how much time had passed until he stood up and reached into the inner pocket of his jacket. When he waved to the bartender, I saw he was getting his wallet, and I instinctively wanted to stop him from paying the bill.
I stood up but lost my balance for a moment. I reached for his arm, but instead, I nearly fell and found myself in his embrace. He caught me at the last second, making the situation look like I wanted to hug him, which saved me from embarrassment in front of the few patrons in the bar.
I wanted to pull away, but his strong arm wrapped around my waist and held me in place.
He paid the bill before I could stop him and kept his arm around my waist until he put his wallet back into his pocket.
He didn’t ask if I wanted to go with him, but I wasn’t against it. I felt unsteady and appreciated him keeping me from wandering around drunk. I only stopped when I realised he was leading me to a hotel.
"I invite you for one last drink, then I’ll let you go," he said, and without thinking, I agreed.
We took the elevator together, and only when the door closed did I feel his hand slip from my waist to my butt. I didn’t move his hand. I didn’t understand what was happening to me, but the way he held me awakened a strange desire within me that kept me from saying no.
However, soon I got back to my senses, and when my hand slipped down to remove his, he suddenly turned, pushing me against the wall of the elevator. His handsome face was only an inch away from mine, and as I looked into his eyes, I felt my heart melt.
