Ronald’s POV - The beauty at the bar
I was sitting in a quiet bar on a hidden street in the Red River Pack. I was thrilled to have discovered it, as I didn’t want anyone to recognise my return.
I held my glass and took a sip of whiskey while reading an important document that would help my pack sell some of the goods we had in abundance. I focused intently on it, trying not to miss any details, when my phone's vibration drew my attention away. Seeing a familiar name on the screen surprised me: it was a good friend, Alex, calling.
“Alex? How are you? It’s been a long time,” I said.
“Yeah, I’m sorry. I’ve been swamped lately. How about you?”
“I’m good. I arrived back at the Red River Pack a week ago.”
“Really? Don’t tell me it's time for your revenge, too.”
I frowned at his words. “Why? Who else wants revenge on the Red River Pack’s Alphas?”
He sighed. “My sister.”
His revelation caught me off guard. “Last I heard, your sister was happily living with that asshole who is set to become the Alpha.”
“Not anymore. That asshole cheated on her and was using her. She’s planning to take her revenge at the ceremony.”
I chuckled, surprised by the twist of events. “And what does that have to do with me?”
“Look, Ronald, I’m really worried about my sister. She’s Alpha-blood and smart, but if she fails, they could make her disappear. She only asked me to arrange for someone to pick her up, and while I’m planning to send a few people, I know you’re there and familiar with the pack. Would you help her?”
I sighed, feeling conflicted. I had my own plans and knew her sister's actions could jeopardise them. Despite how much Alex loved his sister, I didn’t think she was as smart as he believed, especially since she wanted to become that bastard's Luna.
Nevertheless, he was a good friend, and I wanted to assist him. “You don’t need to send anyone else, Alex. Just leave that to me. I have plenty of my guys here, and I can ensure your sister gets out safely after the ceremony. Just let her know there’s someone ready to pick her up.”
Alex let out a relieved sigh from the other end of the line. “Thanks, Ronald. I promise I’ll return the favour.”
I chuckled. “I’ll make a note of that.”
He laughed this time.
“Is there anything else I can help you with?”
“No, that’s it for now.”
“Then get some rest. I’ll take care of this issue.”
“Alright. Thanks, Ronald.”
“Not at all,” I replied, hanging up and leaning back in my chair.
It was amusing how many people disliked Kevin, yet he was about to become the Alpha of this pack.
The Red River Pack was meant to be my heritage. I still remember the pain on my mother’s face when she learned of my father’s betrayal. They had once been a lovely couple. My mother was from Europe, from the Red Moon Pack. At that time, the two packs maintained a good friendship, so when the Red River Pack was left without an Alpha heir, the Red Moon Pack's Alpha couple took care of them.
When my mother married my father, my grandparents asked the werewolves of the Red River Pack whether they would accept my parents as their Alpha couple. After they agreed, the territory was gifted to them as their new home. I was born shortly after, and for a time, it seemed like my parents were happily leading the pack.
That was until my mother fell ill with cancer, and my father found a mistress. When my mother discovered the affair, she broke down, and the pain from his betrayal caused her to stop fighting her illness. She soon passed away, and my father waited only a week after her burial before bringing in his mistress and their illegitimate child, Kevin, as part of the pack.
From that moment on, I was merely a nuisance to them. Even though I was the rightful heir and older, my father and his mistress always prioritised Kevin. He made it clear that he intended for Kevin to inherit the pack when the time came, and feeling unwanted, I decided to leave. I told them I would study abroad, but in reality, I returned to my mother’s original pack, the Red Moon Pack, where I participated in a training program to prepare me to be a strong Alpha.
The pack began to embrace me, and when my beloved grandparents passed away, they asked me to lead them. So, I officially became the Alpha of the Red Moon Pack.
I knew I should have been satisfied, but I could never forgive them for what they had done to my mother and me. I always felt that I would only find peace if I took my revenge and reclaimed my rightful inheritance.
I sighed as I glanced at my empty glass, knowing I would order another drink, as the fine whisky helped me relax. However, I also wanted to review the document, so I returned to it.
Just as I began to focus, I noticed someone enter the bar. It was an odd feeling watching her. Her clothes were wet, as if she had been out in the rain for a long time. Her long brown hair was also soaked, yet I rarely saw a beautiful she-wolf like her. Her green eyes looked tired, as if she had experienced a long, difficult day that had left her feeling sad. If anything had happened to her, I would have been eager to approach her and learn more about her story.
I glanced back at the document, realising that even though I wanted to finish it today, the deadline was still a few days away, so I could afford to wait.
I started to steal glances at her occasionally, hoping to make eye contact, waiting for the right moment to join her at the bar and invite her for a drink or two.
