CHAPTER 26Legionaries felt quite pleased with himself despite holding hands with that little Pastor Beth woman and praying to her god. His plan was working with Riley—and it was all achieved through his greatest power: telepathy. He was able to get under Riley’s skin with the nightmares that he poured into his sleep. He would slowly drive him insane, and Maggie too. She was a bonus. However, there was a fine balance to be wary of. If he pushed too much too soon then Riley would shut down, making the next step of the plan impossible to carry out. If Master truly had given him an unlimited time frame, then Legionaries knew that Riley and Maggie would eventually beg for their sanity back. When it didn’t come, they would take their own lives and Legionaries would find himself in Master’s good
